With nothing booked for next years jaunts, had a quick look on what was available to Vegas in April and there were loads of dates . As we have a few miles left to redeem rang up and have now got 2 x G's to Vegas, did have to buy a few miles to make the 100,000 each as this was the cheapest option, as lowest upgradable Economy was coming out at £2200 for the two of us, still not bad compared to the full price but with the buying miles and sales and taxes got all for £1500.

Thats the last of our Virgin miles gone but use them or loose them. Linda

Just back from Nashville (yesterday) and already restless for another trip. Trouble is, have almost no miles and there don't appear to be any sales either. :(

The reason it was naughty we had decided we wouldn't go to Vegas again next year, maybe once. I also have a 2-4-1 on BA to use which I didn't want to use on going to Vegas again as it seemed a waste as we have been about 20 times and wanted to go somewhere different. Like we are off to Denver in just over a weeks time and trying to decide on next years trip was proving a headache,as we both like different things I like heritage, museums, zoos and scenery, hubby does not do heritage , museums or zoos, so the only compromise is scenery.

With Vegas we both like as it changes each year and there is plenty to go off the beaten track and things to do at night and the food is great.

Any suggestions for a direct flight for the BA voucher will be appreciated, Washington state has been mentioned, plus maybe a drive to Glacier NP, or Texas to Big Bend NP. Linda

Its a basketball tournament + spring break.

I am very very jealous. As a new visitor to Vegas I literally cant get enough of the place.

I was looking for Gs the other day and there does seem to be a lot of availability at the moment, not that Im complaining.

My problem is I have now run out of holiday days at work and we are only in May

BA fly to Cape Town. I have no idea if you have been there but it's a fantastic place to holiday. Plenty of wonderful scenery and if you like wine......!!!!

Sounds perfectly sensible to me, as you say "use them or lose them". Trying to do the same with my HHonors points as I will be receiving the hard landing from Diamond to Blue next year unless something radical happens in my working life.

As to your BA option, from experience of the destination I'd vote for Seattle for best value (ie longest flight ). A shorter option with wonderful scenery is Washington DC with a trip down into Virginia / Tennessee. However, I think I'd be headed for Texas as I have always wanted to go.

Remember you can still boost your miles so still have a few in the bank for a later booking

Use for BA? Fly into Denver and out of Phoenix, and see how many national parks you can do in between...

Rocky mountain NP, Canyonlands, Arches. Capital Reef, Glen Canyon, Zion, Bryce, a different rim of Grand Canyon....

Monument Valley is around there somewhere, and I believe Lake Powell too.

Pop by Vegas for a day or two if you want to too...

I too have a BA voucher to use up by next August. So keep the ideas coming!

How about Boston area? lots of history in the City & plenty of scenery if you get out of the city & out & about. Cape Cod or travel north, etc.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions on where to go for our main holiday next year. Smid believe it or not we have done all the places you suggest, thats what comes of retiring early, hubby does not fancy a long, long haul as I still want to go to New Zealand, it takes me all my time to get him to do an 11 hour flight. Even though he was an aircraft engineer he gets air sick and has to dope himself up to travel.

May think of Cape Town but would prefer to go an organised tour when we get there, will have to have a look at who does them. Have suggested China but he is not sure. Decisions, decisions? Linda

The company who has put together our summer package for KwaZulu Natal then Cape Town does business with ilios.co.za for accompanied tours. At the moment we have a day trip only with them and so can't comment on their offerings, but their website here gives an idea of their coverage.

I did that with SFO... booked the extra miles with to 30% booster! happy days
