Are the sleep suits smelly?

I've only ever flown economy on VS before. 20th wedding anniversary later this year so going UC to LAS. (Counting down the minutes ...) You know how you get a scratchy red blanket all sealed in a plastic bag in economy? Whenever I've undone one before, they never smell particularly fresh so I imagine they just get picked up at the end of a flight & stuffed into another bag, sealed up again ready for next flight. My question is, how fresh are the sleep suits in UC? Are they freshly laundered & ironed? Love the idea of pj's on a plane, not so much if they smell stale though ... Can anyone vouch for them?

Congratulations flowerpot flo on your anniversary!
The sleepsuits come bagged and laundered - and on the return overnight include a pillow spray. I didn't notice any odour on mine on Wednesday/Thursday but I believe that they are laundered if left on the plane (mine are currently on the washing line

)

Yes they are washed. Not sure about ironed though.
They use industrial detergent though and that might be the cause of any odour.

Being of a certain stature and VS not providing sumo size PJs, I often take my own. Your post scoobysu explains the pillow spray I found in the loo and subsequently pocketed not knowing where it had come from. It smells very nice too.
As highlighted by Tonty, they are washed but not necessarily with your nice smelling Comfort or Lenor

Ours looked and smelt brand new.
Like many I have taken mine home with me and will wear them when decorating ( whenever I get around to doing any!).

The sleepsuits are definitely laundered to industrial standards, which may explain why they don't smell as fresh as the detergent / fabric softener you use at home. I don't think I'd dare to iron a sleepsuit as it would more than likely start to melt and stick to the iron!
Going back a few years there was the occasional report of "a hair" being found on occasions in laundered sleepsuit trousers. Have not read anything of this nature recently, so maybe Virgin have upped the laundering that their subcontractor does.
One thing to note is that the sleepsuits can be *very* hot, particularly if the crew crank up the cabin temperature and you're under a duvet. This may suit some people fine, but not be for others. If you have your own cotton PJ's, I'd suggest taking them along for an overnight UC flight.
I always "liberate" the sleepsuit from the aircraft and give them to friends in the Scouts movement - they don't mind being too hot at all when sleeping overnight in tents on camping weekends!

Kraken makes a good point - I would liken the material to thick t-shirt/thin sweatshirt or hoody rather than thin t-shirt or cotton!

Have several pairs still in poly bags waiting to be used some day for something. I have never
worn the sleep suits on a flight but my wife does on overnight flights & has never complained so
must be fine.

Thank you everyone. Happy to think I won't be wearing something that 15 other passengers have worn before me!

All very exciting the first time you put them on - rather like the Amenity Bag - always worth keeping for that 'just in care' moment

Ugh, didn't realise they were pre-worn, now wishing I had taken spare PJs for my flight home on Sunday!!! Might explain why I asked for size M and the top fitted fine but the bottoms were tiny. It was only 3/4 way through the flight I realised the bottoms were S and the top M!
