We're emigrating to the US later this summer. I was approved for my visa this afternoon, so we decided to book a trip to New Jersey to look at houses (though it would be good if work could come up with an actual job offer so I could get approved for a mortgage). I know it's not normally regarded as the most efficient use of miles, but we managed to book LHR->EWR out economy, back PE for 2 adults over the first weekend in July for a total of 90,000 miles and £510. Looking at the cash price it would have been £2,786, which means the miles were worth 2.5p each!

I was amazed at how many LON-NYC redemption options there were, given that I was booking just 16 days in advance. Is it common for there to be miles availability on every flight on this route?
