Virgin Newbie - Please help.

Hello all,

I have recently taken to flying with Virgin again after realising sticking with one airline is probably the best option when it comes to building up those miles. I've even gone as far as getting a VA credit card.

My next flight is not until Jan 16th 2017 on the LGW-MCO route on VS27 flying Economy outbound and PE on the inbound flight now on VS28 on the 27th after the VS16 flight was cancelled on 16th. There are a few questions that I am struggling to get answers with which I have posted below.

- As my VS16 flight has been cancelled, Virgin Holidays have billed me for an alternative nights stay. Should this cost be down to me or VH?

- I would like to upgrade my outbound flight to either PE or Upper class. What is the best way to do this? As far as i'm aware, pretty much all of Upper and PE are available. Is it best to book at the airport, wait until closer to the time or keep pestering VH with seat price requests and availability? I'm also a single traveller if that helps in anyway.

- Finally, and thanks for reading this far. My inbound flight is on row 22 on the upper deck on the 747-400. Has anyone experience of this cabin, if so shall I stay in it?

Thanks again.

Hi and welcome.

Due to the amount of notice they have given regarding the flight change, any extra costs will be your responsibility.

Any upgrade will have to be done through VH directly before your flight. If you definitely want to fly in PE or UC I would personally book it sooner rather than later. UC at 14 seats will almost certainly get booked up and VH only have a very small allocation per flight. PE is very popular on this route. As for prices, only you can ultimately decide what is a good price, but leaving it until the day could result in disappointment. The other thing is the longer you leave it, the better seats will get snapped up and you could be left with a not so great one.

The upper deck on the 747 is a good cabin. It's a mixed PE at the front and Econ at the rear. The toilets are at the front and used by all pax upstairs so you could get some foot traffic. Personally, I prefer the downstairs PE cabin on the 747 now, with row 19 being my favourite, but many others still prefer upstairs, just comes down to individual preferences.

Have a great flight
Neil

I agree with Neil on PE seats. Row 19 is my choice.
You can be first off the plane, which can be a great bonus as there are a few flights landing around the same time and the MCO hall can get crowded.

Thank you both for the comments. I shall look at booking during the September seat sale and try out row 19!

There is nothing to stop you asking VH what the upgrade cost would be now.

A seat sale in September is in no way guarenteed and you need to be aware that once you have a tiicket the rules for upgrades are different and that includes calculating the costs - they do not just look at the fare differences in place on the day you (potentially) upgrade.
