I've seen a photo of an UC Menu that has a line that says 'Depending on your flight, we can arrange a table at the bar if you'd like to dine with a friend'.

Just wondering if that's something that's still offered (this might have been an old photo (TR from 2015) or whether it was one of the recent 'phased out' elements? Traveling with my OH in Nov and would be fun to dine together!

Sure, they're still happy to do this.

If on any aircraft other than a (pre reconfiguration) 330, dining together with one of you sitting in the ottoman is quite possible and comfortable. MrsPJH and I do this.

There is some leg contact, but as it's your OH that should be ok . As I say MrsPJH and I dine together this way when we fly UC. It's even possible on the A330 (though there is no seat belt on the ottoman on that aircraft) but whoever was on the ottoman tended to receive a bump or two from passing crew and passengers (I think they were accidental...)

If it was a work colleague the bar option would probably be preferable.

Leg contact should be fine! I wasn't sure with the change to trolley service I've read whether that ottoman was still an option. Good to know!

Ah, interesting point. We haven't flown VS since that change. Didn't they always clear using a trolley, or am I imaging that?

I'm sure it will be fine.
The trolley is only used for laying the table, bread roll and initial wine/water service. Meals are still served by hand from the galley.

The bar is a communal area. Do everyone else a favour & eat in your seat.

On the basis that I would only do it if no-one else was going to use the bar, would they do it on the LGW 747 ?

I am not sure, you might well be right, I hadn't associated it with dining before and I really cannot recall the size.

If two people are sat at the bar of an LGW 747, it's full.

Sometimes there may be no option but to eat at the bar. It happened to me once when my table couldn't be released and I was asked if I would mind eating at the bar. I wouldn't particularly have chosen it as an option in the general scheme of things but it was either that or don't eat.

I guess its one of them things on what is deemed acceptable manners.....
had an amazing Vueling flight last week. None of the seats reclined.

I've been asked many times, if I wanted to eat at the bar by the crew. (main meal and afternoon tea)

For what its worth, I'd rather see someone eating (ie using ) at the bar than some bean counter say, "nobody uses these things anymore - take them out ! "
