DTCI - to call or not to call, that is the question...?

Hi all,

Just looking for some clarification re: booking in for DTCI. We're flying in little less than a month so I called UC to book a slot, but supply the car details on the day (we'll get an Uber and I'll call once I have the details). However the CS rep told me just to call on the day with the details (half an hour before arrival). Just want to check others experiences as I was pretty sure booking a slot was still the done thing for a smooth entrance etc.

I'd like to avoid having to wait and make things as easy as possible so any thoughts would be great (I know it's changed a bit since the last time I used the service!). Thanks!

You should still be able to book a slot, I'd call again about a week or so before.

Used the DTCI twice, once, a few years ago, whilst sitting in the Hilton at T5 the evening before, an email popped in from Virgin offering the service (I think with Tristar) for a fee. (I think they were trialling the invites then)

The car and appointment was booked through them and it was great.

The second time, from the Hilton at T4, I asked for a taxi at the concierge and a nice S Class Merc rolled up. The driver on hearing I was flying with Virgin Upper, took it upon himself to use the DTCI and it was great.

No call was made, no previous booking was made and the whole operation probably took 2 maybe 3 minutes longer than the first time - the only difference was that the boarding pass and baggage labels needed to be printed out whereas the first time they were already done. (and the driver had to press a button and tell them your surname and flight number - the first time the barrier opened automatically as it knew the reg number)

For 2 minutes, I wouldn't bother calling ahead but as always YMMV

Enjoy the experience.

When arriving by taxi we book a slot without providing vehicle details & then just turn up with the driver just providing
our names via the inter-com, no delays experienced at all.
