Flying Club Query - what counts as a round trip?

Hi all!

A first post here on V-Flyer and it comes with a few questions.

I have booked a trip to the USA with my other half for this Christmas. We booked via Dialaflight and our flights are:

MAN - ATL - 23rd December in Upper (Z) - VS109
ATL - San Antonio - 23rd December in Business (Z) - VS5259

San Antonio - JFK - 5th January in Economy (X) - DL1274

JFK - MAN - 7th January in Economy (N) - VS4022

Being new to Flying Club I have created an account for myself first then referred my other half. I was wondering whether this referral will earn me bonus miles as I am unsure if this trip is classed as a round trip? If so, would the Upper Class bonus apply or the Economy bonus?

On another note, I noticed on 'My Booking' under Flying Club it stated that each flyer would only get 6,135 miles and 5 tier points for this booking. Surely this is incorrect as all our flights are eligible for miles and TP's? I also understand that following the changes to FC I should now earn more than the 6,135 per person as the best rate out of the old and incoming new system will be applied to each individual flight?

And lastly, once we have completed all of our above flights I was thinking I could benefit from the 20,000 miles needed now for an economy return for one person but this would only be possible if I could pool both mile pots together. Is this easily done?

My one concern is that flying out UC and back Economy means a rather depressing return journey home!

Any help is greatly appreciated and apologies for my first post being so full of questions!

Thanks

Hey there and welcome to the site! No worries about questions :)

To address your questions in order:

Bonus Miles: Yes, they should indeed. If you make sure to add your OH's Flying Club number into the booking it should automatically credit the miles. If all the above flights are under one ticket, then yes that would count as a round trip. The bonus miles are done on a one-way basis, so the MAN-ATL leg should net you 5,000 miles for Upper (half of the 10,000 for the roundtrip), however whilst the Economy return (JFK-MAN) would give you 1,000, it doesn't look like it will qualify as it's a codeshare flight operated by Delta.

My booking/Tier Points: Yeah, that part of the site is incorrect. It only lists the Tier Points earned on Virgin operated flights. As long as the Delta legs have your FC number you'll get TPs for the Delta legs as well. One hopes that with the new system & updated website that's in the works this will be corrected.

Old/New system: Correct, you should get the best result out of the two systems as you have booked prior to the changes.

Pooling miles: Off the top of my head, I'm honestly not sure - it's been asked before so I'm sure someone with knowledge of this will chime in :)

Hope this helps!

You can't really pool miles. All you can do is use 10k from each account for one leg of the round trip, but you can't use say 12k from one account and 8k from the other, it has to be minimum enough for one leg from each account.

This is a shame. I've regularly flown to the USA over the years using BA/AA and benefited from their 'Householder' account allowing me to pool together points from my account and the OH's. No chance of this becoming a feature of the revamped FC?
