Just did a dummy booking for that Boston fare on both VS & Dealta web pages.

Using a date in April, the £1499 is same price for both airlines but I would prefer the one on the Delta metal as the timing is better. To carry on booking the flight via the Delta website would be so simple, unbeliebably quicker and far far more efficent. Finally on the delta flight you get to see the seat plan before you 'book' which is important when you're making multiple seat reservations. No brainer really if I was wanting a trip over to Boston.

When oh when are Virgin Atlantic going to wake up, get their heads out of the sand and stop pretending that it doesn't matter that endless loyal supporters of the brand are moving elsewhere in rapid numbers

AFAIK neither the VS nor DL websites allow you to see the other's seat maps before booking, that only works for their own flights.

Actually I stated I was comparing the websites. Which is why I very carefully worded my sentence ..Finally on the Delta flight you get to see the seat plan before you book

I never said that you could see the Virgin metal seatplan on the Delta webpage or visa versa.

AFAIK ! we have never had and still do not have, the seatplan open to view on the VS website prior to parting with our cash. A concept unfortunately not inherited from Delta.

Plus I did not get an email saying a sale was on, and neither did anyone else I know that flys Virgin.

Yes we have, that feature has been available since the change last month.

It's on the page where you enter payment details, after filling in your name, DOB, email address etc.

Now that is a slightly forward move by VS !

However it is a laborously slow & time-consuming process to reach that point.

I recently booked some flights with Alaska Airlines from Palm Springs to SFO. On the very first information page which detailed my available flights, times etc there is the facility to check what seats are available. In other words you do not have to waste time tapping in all the personal details of a passenger just to see the seat map.

To some people, perhaps viewing a seat map prior to deciding what actual flight to book may not be that important but to others it is. In my case the booking page on Alaska showed up 4 seats available in the class I wanted but on checking the seat map we would not have been sitting together so I opted for a later flight.

In my opinion, although VS have somewhat improved their antiquated booking system, they have failed to seize the oportunity to opt for a simple up to date booking system which currently works perfectly for their buddy Delta and all other 'American' airlines

I do agree with being able to look at the seat map very early on in the process. With United I will only book a flight if certain seats are open and do not want to have to "book" a flight, fill in some details, then look. The United system allows me to look at it without even having to be logged in.

Although usually being fairly flexible with travel dates, I fully agree with wanting to be able to choose my preferred seat before confirming my online booking.

So much so that when I have found my preferred availability, I have phoned FC to check seat number availability beforehand, then ended up making the reservation directly with the call agent! I hope they get some commission as it defeats the point of me booking online.
