Virgin Holidays - Flight Change

I had booked a Virgin Holiday package in October for two people, 6 nights at Encore in Las Vegas travelling Monday 23rd Jan and returning on Sunday 29th Jan.
When looking through my MMB on Virgin Atlantic last week, it stated that there had been a Flight Change and I have now been booked to come back on Sat 28th (i.e lose a days holiday) After contacting VH, one of the Flight Change team emailed me to say I can either accept the change (with £139 refund for lost day in resort), request alternative dates etc or receive a full refund.
I requested to stay one more night in resort and fly back on Mon 30th Jan. (I have tickets to the Frampton fight on Saturday so did not want to curtail the break, extra days car hire is ok with me)
They have just emailed me and said, yes that is possible, but they want to charge me £252 for an extra night in the hotel and £160 extra for the flight on the Monday.
Any suggestions on how I should approach this? My thoughts are
1. They were only going to offer me £139 for losing a Saturday night in Vegas - how can they charge nearly double for a Sunday (especially when tagged onto a now 7 night booking)
2. Why should I accept a charge for returning on the same route a day later - and due to their problem?

Unfortunately they are correct: under the VH T&Cs here: https://www.virginholidays.co.uk/import ... conditions if you don't accept their change you can request an alternative but you have to pay the difference if it's more expensive than your original holiday.

You are, however, entitled to £25 compensation per person for the inconvenience. Little consolation I know and it may be worth trying to get more out of them but technically they're correct.

receive a full refund.
That is what I would have told them & take my business elsewhere.

This is probably easier to say in your position, you don't have a holiday in a month's time with tickets booked for activities during your break.

You got the option of cancelling for a full refund.
Look around, find it cheaper elsewhere & jump ship.

Indeed... try Thomas Cook instead and save a few ££££, if your not in Upper then their premium cabin on the 330 is fine

***Update***

Unfortunately the suggestions to cancel and get a refund to rebook with an alternate carrier were not an option as the alternatives were more expensive.

The original booking was made during a sale period so the extra night at Encore was always going to look significantly more expensive when compared to the rest of the trip.

I sent a 'nice' email to the Flight Changes team, expressing my displeasure and surprise at the price quoted for the extra night. I also mentioned the £8500+ that I spent on other bookings to Encore as there are another 11 of us going, my loyalty to VH and VA (over 20 years and over 80 flights) and their reply...........all sorted for an extra £136 total.

Needless to say, more than happy and a recommendation to trying a more reasonable approach rather than a rant and threatening to take your business elsewhere can sometimes reap rewards.

VA and VH are back on my Xmas card list and restores the faith I have with the brand, even in these difficult I.T. times they are currently experiencing
