Odd shaped luggage

Hi,
I am flying UC shortly to the US and want to buy a Root Assassin spade (much cheaper than in the UK). it is a 48 inch long (narrow) spade.
This is longer (but will be much smaller in the other two dimensions) than the 90cm length specified for hold baggage.
It would be wrapped in bubble wrap etc.

Can I use one of my baggage pieces for this without charge? Or how would I go about bringing this home?

I suppose it is similar in length to a golf bag?..
If so, i cant see any reason why not.

I've travelled many times with my clubs, never an issue with size, or weight

Call VS to check though...or even go online chat with them and print the chat , take it with you as proof of permission if your chat is positive.

Hope that helps
Paul

How many others had to Google a Root Assassins Spade?
I never realized assassins used a special spade.

A few years ago while staying in a villa in Orlando my wife fell in love with a rocking chair in the lounge. While out and about we saw such a chair and she decided she must have it. I contacted Virgin who confirmed that as long as the package did not exceed the weight and total dimensions allowances, we could take it.
We turned up at check in and the staff didn't even blink. They assure us they were used to all sorts of strange packages and even told a story of a chap who took home a lawn mower.
I would guess therefore that as long as the weight and total dimensions are OK. so will you be!
Good luck!!

Whilst not exactly odd-shaped, I've bought back a boxful of boat spare parts for my Uncle who has a US-manufactured boat in Spain. The spares are uber-expensive in Spain so when he knew I was going to Orlando & flying home with a 96kg baggage allowance he went online and ordered & had it delivered to my hotel in Orlando.

It was a big cardboard box & pretty heavy - think it was just over 30kgs, it got the orange "Heavy" label added to it, but it was free international P&P for my Uncle. Think it took him about a year to get all the spare parts out to Spain as they normally fly out there with hand luggage only.

Judging by the spike in searches shortly after the OP was made, quite a few!

Thanks folks.

Think I will do an online chat with Virgin.

And now you can all get one of these when you are away :)
