Hey guys,

We’re flying on one of the newly refitted A330-300 from LHR - MIA in August.

Looking at paying the £14.99 for the inflight WiFi. Sitting in upper so will make use of it as I’ll have my laptop at easy access.

What are your experiences with the WiFi on this aircraft? Talking mainly about the speeds etc?

Cheers!

It's more than adequate for general web browsing, email & messaging etc. I was getting in the region of 20Mbps download speeds when I last used it. It does depend on how many people are using it though. The more people using it, the slower it runs at.

Streaming services such at Netflix et.c are all blocked. WiFi calling (if your mobile network supports it) is also blocked.

On the 346, which I believe is the same system - I was able to do a Facebook Live video with no issues whatsoever.

The only time I've never been able to connect was on a return from Shanghai. All other times I've been able to connect, albeit with a couple of teething problems early in the flight when the system starts up.

The GoGo internet wifi on the 747's was more than fast enough for me to stream Youtube videos (in HD) and watch the entire Corrs at Landsdowne Road concert on YouTube without buffering. The stream takes a little longer to start than it would on a home broadband connection, but once it got going it was fine. BBC iPlayer also worked (via a VPN to get round the geographical block).

The only issue I had was the GoGo internet landing page would not load by itself when I started Safari. Just entering 1.1.1.1 in the address bar and pressing enter forces it to load.

I've used it several times so far on various TATL flights (both the B789 system and the A333 system which are slightly different) and never had any issues with it.

My next couple of flights will be on the A346's so I'll see what happens with those. B744 flights from/to MAN in Sept so that gives me the full range A/C I'll try it on.
