ANA Redemption

Good morning!
Does anyone have any recent experience of redeeming VS miles with ANA? A few questions...
1. Is there any easy way to do this? Can I source availability myself or do I just have to call VS?
2. Is First worth the extra miles over Business?
3. Any idea of taxes involved?
4. Is it considered a good use of miles? It looks about the same as using them on VS but would just like a second opinion.
Thanks,
Mike

Yes, we've done it several times
Sometimes it's been a lengthy process booking, and if anyone knows a better way to find out availability before calling Virgin, I'd like to know!
We've been both Business (which is VERY nice - beats the pants of BA's so called 'business') but if you've got the miles (and they've got the space) First is incredible. Differences are even better food & drink - Choice of Krug vs Blanc De Millenaire last time we flew 1st)
Interestingly they colour code the passengers (by the colour of their pyjamas) so they know who's who - First are in Red, Business in Blue - it's a great way to spot stowaways!
If you're planning a return, why not do one leg business, one First, and make your own mind up!

I recently did a redemption for two friends doing LHR-HND-LHR. I used the United website to check for availability, it's quite reliable though the taxes were slightly off. I believe they paid approximately £500 in taxes for two J redemptions.
As far as value for points, it's probably the best priced redemption now following the changes to Air China pricing.

Hi, I'm trying to find a redemption flight on ANA from London to Haneda using my Flyer Miles. Using the Untied's website to check availability it shows Zero availability for J or F through the whole of the rest of this year, and just 2 dates in Jan, 2 in Feb. Is this usual? Am I missing something? I heard they often release more seats about 10 days before the flight but nothing is showing at all. I could use Avios on BA, but it's not the same! Well not until their new cabin gets rolled out.

Yes, that seemed quite typical when I was doing my search. If your logistics could stretch to it, consider searching with CDG or AMS as your departure point (if you're willing to start your journey from there).
Otherwise like most other mileage redemptions it is just a case of playing the waiting game, being as flexible as you can be, and being prepared to book a long way in advance...!
