Upgrading With Flying Club Points at LHR On Day Of Travel

Hi - has anyone got any experience or feedback on upgrading from Economy to either Premium or Upper at LHR upon check-in, which they could advise me on?

Flying LHR-SFO next month in Econ (back LAX-LHR Econ), 2Ad/1Ch, both myself and my wife are Silver level, with approx 36k miles each, so I wondered what the possibilities are of using some/all of these miles to upgrade the 3 of us on the day at the check-in/ticket desk, subject to availability.

Thanks in advance.....

If there are unsold seats in your chosen cabin, it’s usually possible to upgrade with miles on the day.

However with only 36k miles each you can rule out UC I’m afraid - upgrading from Economy in peak season costs 50,600 miles each way. Premium is possible though, for 18,700 miles each way per person, as long as you’re booked into Economy Classic or Delight (but not Light).

IIRC there’s a dedicated upgrades desk at LHR check-in so try asking there.

An issue you will have is that you cannot pool miles from two accounts to pay for an upgrade for your child.

Also remember yiu will have extra APD - £77 per adult - to pay plus some other VS fees. If your child is currently exempt rom APD in economy the yiu will have to pay £ 155 as there is no exemption from APD in premium cabins for children.
