Delta One or Upper Class

Is it better to fly Delta One or Upper Class across the Atlantic?

I’ve flown both on an Airbus A330 in the last couple of months. Trip reports here and here, which both have links to YouTube vlogs.

I thought it would be fun to compare the two services, and put this together over on YouTube. I even went as far as to research the ratings and unit costs of the wines both offer!

I concluded that both services are good, but VS is slightly better. What do you guys think?

A very useful and informative comparison Woralla - thank you.

Mrs Buns was particarly interested as we are scheduled (all being well) to sample the Delta One offering to Atlanta in February.

We both really enjoy your YouTube Channel

Thanks for this. I'll also be trying Delta One a couple of times in 2019.

Something to remember though is that DL don't op A332's on all their UK routes. For example, they op a 767 A/C on their SLC>LHR route which is a different forward facing seat for Delta One (though I believe it's still fully flat when in bed mode).

The DL 767s are pretty old, just like the VS 346s. I’d avoid both as far as I can. But here’s a video of the 767.

I'm surprised you thought the Delta bedding was bad! I thought it was very comfortable last time. Though admittedly I have not done an overnight in Upper for a couple of years now.

I think in general the Delta seats are better, but to me they lack the cabin ambience and a bar, on Delta I feel tied to a seat (which is a good seat no question) but nowhere else to go. I'd say DL are better on overnight if you are prioritising sleep, and VS are better for a more exciting experience.

For a day flight I'd probably go with VS. :-D

I thought that the blanket and pillow on DL weren’t as good as a mattress topper and duvet on VS. Plus you get a sleep suit. Part of my issue with the DL seat is that it isn’t that easy to get out of when it’s fully reclined as a bed.

They are both good products, but I think Virgin staff have the edge.

Major difference for me on the DL A330 is the fact that your head is in the aisle when you are trying to sleep which i dont particularly like and you get constant floor bounce from stompy crew. On the VS config, your head is away from the aisle and thus not an issue. I found the seat on Delta quite narrow but the bedding was nice, just no pjs and on a hot flight, thats not great imo.
