Is there any good ex EU airports to try and get cheaper fares from than if going from UK? Tried the obvious ones but not seen anything below 2500 return.

Where abouts are you looking?

If you are prepared to have a mixed VS/DL itinerary and flying Delta one way, I can see return fares to SEA for just under £1900 for many dates next year.

Using Google Flights (business class; VS + DL only):

Outbound is direct VS in Upper Class, return via PDX; flying Delta First + Delta One.

Problem is there aren't many airlines flying to SEA from Europe so there is little or no competition so no need to offer cheap deals - even where there is direct competition such as BA & VS ex LHR

According to the SEATAC wiki page (I know not totally accurate but it gives an indication) the following flights operate year round to Europe

EI - Dublin
AF - CDG
BA - LHR
DL - AMS, CDG
LH - FRA
VS - LHR

With EI you get Pre-Clearance in DUB. It's a new routing and is only a 4 day service (I think)
