Afternoon all,

I am taking my first upper class from Gatwick tomorrow - quite excited!! I've just tried to check in online and its not let me. Any ideas as to why this may be?

Have you received any messages / see on line anything that relates to a time change - even if only a few minutes? I think sometimes if you haven't acknowledged these it stops you checking in on line.

If you use Twitter, try that route for asking why you are facing this issue (but don't put your booking details in the first Tweet). I had the same problem with Delta when flying back from New Orleans and got it sorted in about half an hour.

Are you flying to the USA? If so and it is your first flight with VS, then you will not be able to check in online. This happened to two of my travel companions last year. Although on the same booking as myself, neither had flown with VS before, neither were able to check in online and both had the dreaded SSSS on their boarding passes for an extra security check at the gate. Just an idea.

Another reason could be to do with documentation. The first flight I had to the USA with a new passport it wouldn’t allow online checkin. Required visit to the desk and a SSSS!

The SSSS really is a joke (makes TSA "Security" look good). By printing the SSSS on the boarding pass / preventing online check-in, the USA are highlighting to a passenger that they are going to get a frisking / close examination of hand luggage at the gate. If you're up to no good, you'll just fail to show up for the flight once you see the warning signs & try another day.

It's also worth noting that the SSSS screeners are G4S's finest, being paid the national minimum wage. A real deterrent against terror? I think not.

There are several reasons why OLCI dosen't work and being chosen for SSSS is merely one of them. If you upgraded for example and you have some fees still to pay will stop OLCI.

And SSSS is just an additional security check and not something to be 'dreaded' (and yes I have had SSSS)

First flight with an airline and a new passport are not sole factors for SSSS.

Agree, it's most likely SSSS. Which is nothing to worry about at all. It forces you to check in in person at the airport and have your bag searched at the gate during boarding, which can cause a delay boarding, but being UC as long as you board pretty quick it should be fine.

Agree with Kraken on the SSSS screeners at the gate. The last time I had SSSS (at MAN), the agent at the gate opened my (rather rammed full) hand baggage and basically hinted that he daren't touch such a neatly, overly packed bag because he probably couldn't get it all back in. He simply glanced in it and waved me on. Pointless.

This is the wiki from BA flyer talk why can't I check in online?

Whilst BA related many of the reasons still apply to VS (and other airlines)
