‘Seat at gate’

Flying from LAX to Manchester this evening, for the first time ever I’ve not paid to pick my seats. Upon check in I’ve been assigned ‘seats at gate’. Is that normal? Does it suggest not many seats left together? Family of four with a 13 year old so one of the adults will have to sit with them. Thanks in advance.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think a 13 year old is classed as a child on a Virgin flight and you might find they have to sit by themselves?

Sorted at bag drop. All 4 of us sat together.

To clarify CAA rules on children and seating are only for those aged under 12.

Above that and they care classed as adults. And the wording is sat 'adjacent not 'next to' so that can mean across the aisle or in the row in front or behind.
