VS19 LHR – SFO UC 787-9 Seating

Noob here, I've been lurking, but this is my first post.

I fly this route in PE a couple of times a year; it’s a westbound day flight and I usually take a K seat to lean against the window to nap and avoid direct sunlight. I was able to bag a UC upgrade for early next year and most of the seating is open. I’ve never flown UC and am looking forward to the experience and privacy.

Browsing here it looks like the 787-9 UC A, K seats all face away from the window and pax can’t see out, is that correct? Are the shades down the time? Are any positioned where you’re accidentally staring at the person across the aisle?
What are your favourite seats in a 787-9 UC?

Go on the A side so you’re not facing opposite somebody. Row 7 doesn’t have a window. All seats face the aisle, but you can twist around to see out of the window.

Even on day flights they’ll often override the window control and dim them during the flight. I once put mine back to normal and was told to turn it back down. Slightly annoying on a day fight.

I personally like 8 or 9A. Far enough away from the bar, but close enough to use it. In the group of first few passengers to get off and I’ve never had an issue with meal choices either.

Enjoy!

I was on vs19 last week - my preferred upper seat is 4a.
Yes, upper seats are angled away from the windows, but still easy enough to look out. Avoid row 7 as no window there.
As you say, the sun shines brightly into the A side for most of this flight, so the blinds are best dimmed on the A side. On my flight, most windows on the K side were just partially dimmed, so the cabin had moderate light. So perfect. I would guess it varies a little according to crew and pax preference, as with other day flights.
The dimming feature on the 787 is pretty good - partial dimming to reduce glare but maintain some daylight.

Thank you for the great advice; I took McCoy's seat, 4a. If I want to stroll to the bar, it'll be good to stretch my legs. The pre-order meal may be in effect at that point, and I'll probably have breakfast in the Lounge before the flight anyway.

Just to say thank you to everyone who made suggestions here, and to Gardyloo2 for starting the thread, as it helped me with seat selection for an upcoming flight on a route I don't normally travel :)
