Checked my reservation for August and noticed it's no longer an A350, both lhr/sfo sfo/lhr are 789, and, of course, seats selections got mangled.

Yep, my VS19/20 flights in September have also changed to a 789 as well. Gone from 1K to 4K here.

I was on VS20 in late May. Today, I noticed my seat assignments were all randomized to like the last row of the cabin :-/

My itinerary details on the Virgin booking page still show an A350, and the seat map shows a 787 seat map while labeling the plane as an A350... weird.

But if I go search for a new booking it shows 787:

And the VS20 schedule on FlightMapper still shows:
Daily 18:00 San Francisco (SFO) I 12:15 Heathrow, London (LHR) 3
VS 20 Non-stop Boeing 787-9 (789) 10:15 Effective 2020-03-28 through 2020-05-14
The flight arrives 1 day after departure.
Daily 18:00 San Francisco (SFO) I 12:15 Heathrow, London (LHR) 3
VS 20 Non-stop Airbus A350-1000 (351) 10:15 Effective 2020-05-15 through 2020-10-23
The flight arrives 1 day after departure.

Confusing.

I've had an A350 to JFK flight switch to an A333. Looks like some fleet shuffling is going on.

Does anyone have any more info on this?

Noticed my SFO flights affected? Could change to LAX to still get the 350 but is there a chance SFO could switch back?

There’s no available info about this change unfortunately.

VS (and other airlines) will never guarantee a specific aircraft type on any route sorry.

Even if you change to LAX there no guarantees that route will stick with an A350 either.

Our SFO flights have also been changed from a 350 to a 789. First the outbound flight on 21/10/20 changed and then a week later also the inbound on 28/10/20. I was really looking forward to the new upper suites. I checked and the 350 is now completely gone from the SFO route as far out as January 2021. The 350 ist now on the Atlanta route beginning 25/10/2020. Furthermore some VS5/6 in winter 2020 are now on the 332? Didn't think they were flying from LHR.

By the way thanks to everyone for all the great information here. Just reading along and getting my infos for a view years now already for our VS flights :-). Greetings from Vienna/Austria.

My 23/24 in November switched to 789 from 35K, in addition a number of my JFK trips have switched to 333 instead of 35K as well. Obviously doing quite a bit of tweaking of the schedules.
