Given that BA doesn’t appear to be involved that, to me, would seem a reasonable deduction.

I really don't think the two are connected.
The most either airline would be able to promise the government is to email their staff to make them aware of the need for staff at NHS Nightingale(s) and volunteers would be appreciated etc.
And I've just seen Ruth May the Chief Nurse for England on BBC South East News emhasise the staff would be volunteers.

It's just appeared on the VS Instagram feed to state that they (VS) are working with the NHS to see how as many VS people as possible could help out in a voluntary capacity at the Nightingale NHS Hospitals that are being setup.
Would have thought this may appeal to Cabin Crew who are all SEP / First Aid trained & have security clearance, which should speed up their route to being able to volunteer.
