VS launch MAN-DEL and MAN-BOM

https://twitter.com/VirginAtlantic/stat ... 8802567168Good to see that MAN-DEL is moving forward. The addition of BOM is a pleasant surprise too and will replace the short-loved Jet Airways route that existed for a few months until their demise. Both routes go on sale 20th October.
BOM is reportedly launching 19th December 2020 thrice weekly, DEL 5th January 2021 twice weekly.

Just received this via VS Trade with a few more details:
We are delighted to announce we are launching services to Delhi and Mumbai from Manchester, commencing December 2020.
We will be flying three times a week from Manchester to Mumbai beginning in December and twice weekly to Delhi starting in January. These new services will go on sale on the 20th October and will complement our existing daily services to these two Indian cities from London Heathrow.
These new services will open up over 130,000 seats between Manchester and India and aims to respond to the large, fast-growing demand to visit friends and relatives, as well as capturing demand for business and leisure travel to the region as global economies gradually recover from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Route details:
Manchester to Mumbai
Frequency: Three times a week (Mon, Wed, Sat) starting on 19th December 2020
Aircraft type: Boeing 787-9 – 31 Upper Class. 35 Premium and 192 Economy Delight, Classic and Light
Manchester to Delhi
Frequency: Twice a week (Tues, Fri) starting on 5th January 2021
Aircraft type: Boeing 787-9 – 31 Upper Class. 35 Premium and 192 Economy Delight, Classic and Light
Flights will go on sale from 20th October.

And perhaps a sign of rethinking Asian routes, in light of the USA being closed (and in denial).

Pretty crazy to see this launch in the current climate. Long overdue, let’s hope they go from strength to strength as the world gets over the current circumstances.
I suppose VS has had to become less reliant on TATL routes: the success of this might open up further eastbound opportunities at MAN to places like Johannesburg, Tel Aviv, Cape Town, Bangkok and Lahore. In turn, this should assist the recovery of westbound traffic to places like New York, Atlanta, LA, Barbados, Orlando and perhaps in time Boston, San Francisco and Las Vegas again... that would be a decent hub if VS can chart a path through this pandemic...
