It's very likely that next year I will qualify for my 10th year as gold, but will fall short on the 7500 tier points required on VS flights.

Anyone any experience on what happens here? What if it takes me another year or 2 to get the 7500 VS TP, will I get gold for life still?

Reading the T&C's it does read as if you will have to carry on earning AU status until you do hit the 7500 TP's flying VS threshold.

From the T&C's and my bolding as it mentions a minimum of 10 consecutive years.

2.24. Lifetime Gold Membership

2.24.1 To qualify for Lifetime Gold status, a member must have earned a minimum of 10 consecutive calendar years at Gold status.

2.24.2 The Gold member must have earned a minimum of 7,500 tier points during their consecutive years at Gold status on VAA operated and marketed flights.

2.24.3 Transactions that are excluded from the 7,500 tier point criteria include codeshare flights, manually added tier points including gestures given to members, and bonus tier point offers.

2.24.4 If a member has been given a complimentary Gold status, this is excluded from the criteria to reach Lifetime Gold status.

Flying Club will be able to tell you the number of TP's you have earned on just VS flights.

I mentioned this on a call with a very knowledgeable agent last week. It's fine to take more than 10 years to earn the TP. But you must remain gold the whole time. So it's as we thought.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I have another query regarding lifetime gold.

I want to book an itinerary that I can only find available via Delta (even rang VS up and they can't do the same routing). There will be 2 long haul legs, both on VS, but obviously with DL tickets. I know the VS flights will credit the usual TPs into my Flying Club account, no worries there. But I want to make sure both these VS will contribute to my lifetime gold TPs? Are there any pitfalls to avoid with them being DL tickets/ticket numbers and not VS?

If not mistaken, it has to be VS operated and marketed flights. The DL flights will be under codeshare marketed as Delta not VS. But I have read online that Delta may be able to book as VS marketed

The way I interpret it is that it has to be a VS operated flight with a VS flight number and have a VS 932 ticket number as well.

For example I'm flying next week on the VS7, though because I booked these flights via Air France and the ticket has a AF flight number (AF6756) and a 057 AF ticket number, though still operated by VS, that wont actually count towards my required life time tier points total.

Anything DL issue will be a 006, 057 or 074 (DL/AF/KL) ticket number. I don't think DL can issue VS 932 ticket numbers.

I will qualify for gold again by this September 30th. But will VS see it as my 9th or 10th I wonder?

But this image shows only 8 years as gold because of the protracted covid years


So it looks like I will have 10 calendar years as gold, but not 10 membership years? Which 1 counts?

The annoying thing is that I would have qualified for gold for 1 more year anyway even with covid restrictions and the extended membership years. So in my case, the extended year might have cost me.

I guess I have a nervous wait as after this year it's doubtful I will qualify for gold again due to moving jobs.

Shockingly underwhelming (unlike other airlines) and there is no formal confirmation, card to show-off, or a special hat

Been Lifetime Gold for 8 or 9 years now. Only once was I told on the phone, and they thanked me for Lifetime Gold. Two times, CH at LHR let me use the services when I was flying BA (before COVID). You get nothing else. Used to get a gold card in the post each year, with no expiry date on it, I think. LHR let me use the services when I was flying BA (before COVID). You get nothing else. VS Partner Tier Points and still Tier Points. I used to earn a lot on Virgin Australia from LAX to Sydney. Make sure your Delta booking is linked to your Flying Club account.

Flying Club Tier Points can be earned on partner airlines too, not just VS-operated/marketed flights, as long as the flight is eligible and your Flying Club number is on the booking. I used to earn a lot of Tier Points flying LAX–Sydney with Virgin Australia.
