19:35 March 21st Update from VS Trade:
A fire at an electrical substation near Heathrow Airport has resulted in the airport’s temporary closure until later today (21 March). Unfortunately, this has had a significant impact on our flying programme both into and out of Heathrow. All Virgin Atlantic flights that were due to depart Heathrow on 21 March are cancelled. Our flights that were airborne at the time of the incident have since diverted to appropriate airports in the UK or have returned to their origin.
For 22 March operations
We expect to run a near-full schedule on 22 March (tomorrow), with limited cancellations. Subject to change, the current list of cancelled flights for 22 March is:
VS026 – JFK - LHR
VS450 – JNB – LHR
VS165 – LHR – MBJ
VS024 – LAX – LHR
VS046 – JFK – LHR
VS222 – UVF - LHR
However, as the situation remains dynamic, we ask that your customers due to travel tomorrow, check their flight status on http://www.virginatlantic.com and only arrive at the airport if they have a ticket for departure on 22 March. Heathrow is expected to be very busy, so please advise your customers not to arrive at the airport more than three hours before their flight.
