I have been flying VS for many years but am mystified by the points allocated to a recent trip. My wife and I booked Economy and upgraded to Upper using points and had a G class ticket. On the flight out from Manchester to Atlanta and on to Fort Myers I was awarded 2,659 points for the VS flight out and 5,317 points for the return trip. My wife was similarly awarded 2,045 out and 4,090 on return as she is Red whilst I have Silver status.
I have tried looking at the VS website but G Class tickets are not mentioned. Could somebody please explain why we received half as many points going out as on return or should I contact VS for an explanation.
Many thanks
David

As you upgraded to a G fare (which is Upper Class reward) that now wont earn any points, however, as you upgraded your original fare will still earn points.
It will be most likely be because your original fare codes were different on your outbound and inbound flights. Do you still have the original booking confirmation email by any chance as that will show your original fare codes?
Higher fares in the same cabin will earn double the points of lower fares.

Many thanks James. I have done some more research as the booking confirmation only shows G Class as it was booked over the telephone with an agent in Swansea. However looking further the Delta portion shows booking classes L&O which as you say would affect the points earning level and Level O only exists on VS and not on DL. So I think I now understand how the system works. Once again thanks.

Is it me or are Virgin losing the plot
I am a lifetime gold and a few months ago booked 4 premium return flights
For my son and his family Flights from Lhr to JFK using miles
Due to family reasons my son asked to changed the departure date
I checked on line and the outgoing flight on the new date was the same as the original
So I rang the gold support line and was told as the return leg( which we were not changing)
Was now more miles I would have to pay and extra 24000 miles per passenger
As the the original booking needed to be cancelled and rebooked
Sorry Virgin this is madness and not what you expect or being a loyal
Customer for 34 years
