I have a PE return flight booked with points. Can I upgrade this to UC with cash? I know you can bid at auction, or attempt to do so at the gate, but both are last minute options but prefer to do so in plenty of time before the flights.

Afraid not. Upgrading reward booking is points only or use bid to upgrade.

Only cash bookings can you upgrade with cash, points or bid.
