Thanks for the responses to my previous question about holding/booking each way so that you bag the best points seats, but I realised that the title of my question wasn't massively helpful!

The key part of my question was that if they can no longer hold the outbound until the inbound is released, or combine both ways into a return, how do you use a companion voucher?

Reward vouchers; be it companion or upgrade vouchers can be used on two one-way flights.

In case it helps anyone else, just been on with FC and the new process is really not too helpful with regards to joining 2 legs of flights into a return and using the companion voucher.

Firstly, to join 2 legs now you will always be charged the £70 pp change, so need to weigh up which is most expensive, this or the extra tax. The worst bit though is that you would need to hold your nerve and wait for the inbound to be released before securing the outbound if you want to us the companion voucher for a return.

Basically, if just booking the outbound leg then you can't apply the voucher (not for return companion) so need to pay for everyone in points. You can subseuently apply the voucher if you join the inbound to this as a return when you book it, but I was told that I wouldn't get the points already laid out refunded!

Makes the voucher much less useful as a companion really, you can either use it as a companion 1-way, as an upgrade, or wait for return flights to be released and risk not getting the outbound leg at a decent points price!

Just one more way that they have hit their loyal customers, seriously thinking about cancelling the cc next year!

Small question; so it is possible to combine 2x one way flights but for a fee of 70gbp per person?
Wonder if this is in general / recent change, or only if you are going to use a companion voucher.
As, I tried to do this last year, but was told we can no longer combine one way bookings into a return.

What they told me (assuming that the outbound seats are still available and at the same/reasonable points value) is that they can cancel the outbound and re-book it as a return when the inbound is released Apologies that I should have written this more clearly as it isn't quite thesame as joining the 2 legs together, and only works if the points haven't shot up since you booked!

Yes, it's not ideal. I decided to book two one way UC flights recently (LHR-LAS next summer). I booked the outbound immediately when they became available as the points amount was really reasonable. I then booked the inbound when they were released, again at a surprisingly great points rate. However, by that time the outbound points amount had skyrocketed, so if I'd tried to convert it to a round trip I wouldn't have had enough points. They did link the bookings, however.

I used a voucher on the outbound but as the points amount was too low, I could only use it for 100,000 points rather than the full 155,000, so it felt like a bit of a waste, and obviously I paid more in taxes for two one way flights. It goes without saying that I prefer the old system, but I'm trying to do my best to make this one work.
