If I fly from MCO to UK via Atlanta, do I need to collect my bags at Atlanta and transfer to another flight or will they be checked through to UK?

Leaving the US they are checked through, coming into the US, collect, customs, recheck.

Assuming it's booked on the same ticket (i.e. you purchased a flight from MCO to the UK rather than buying 1 flight from MCO to ATL and then ATL to UK on another), your bags will be transferred to the connecting flight, no need to collect them in ATL in that direction.

As already mentioned, in the other direction (UK to MCO via ATL) you do need to collect in ATL.

We have just flown back to UK from Cincinnati via Atlanta and the bags were checked through to Heathrow.

Thanks for taking the time to reply guys. Another 'thicko' question please. If I am flying from MCO with Delta to ATL and then Virgin Atlantic to MAN, who do I check in with at MCO? Tickets booked through VS.
