Why was the Boeing / Airbus topic locked?

I enjoyed reading other's comments, as I would like to try the 380 when it arrives.

The thread was locked by Pix.

If you can't access it any more, this is the last entry on the thread, and why it was locked : -

Since the A vs B wars are something which plague A.net, I'm locking this thread down before it starts getting too nasty. The threads of this type on A.net soon decend into outright xenophobia - which I'm glad to see hasn't happened here, but not wishing to tempt fate...

Not being the locker I cannot comment definitively BUT I can say that one of the topics discussed between moderators is how to keep the friendly atmosphere of V-Flyer alive because this is one of the things that makes it such a wonderful resource.

Any thread dedicated to diametrically opposed subjective opinions lends itself to spiralling out of control. It is therefore felt that when such discussions start it is best to encourage their rapid demise. Whilst this could be said to stifle free discussion/argument there will never a definitive answer to the question set out in the thread you refer to nor others of its ilk. Rather than allowing a situation to develop where we have to admonish fellow board members for unseemly behaviour we'd prefer to keep the focus of this board positive and helpful to everyone - especially new users. If you as a new user see people expressing strongly held opinions you may become wary of posting less you cross an unseen line. Thus the community withers on the vine to become a haunt of the most outspoken individuals.

Hope this illuminates rather than obfuscates. ;)

My reply was shorter, but I like yours better - almost poetic in structure and content ;)

I saw we posted about 20 seconds apart - that'll teach me to go all poetic ;). It's funny how formal your language can become when you're trying to express yourself clearly! I love English as a language for this reason - so many nuances. Anyhow glad you didn't feel I'd "posted over" you. Personally I liked your reference back to the original thread. Perhaps we should meld the two replies :D

Oh... so sorry, I missed his last post.

As a board admin, I know what you mean. Many of the folks on our board came over because of nasty political debates going on elsewhere.

So, I am sorry that I asked, and certainly understand!

Its a shame he locked it as i was enjoying the sensible debate we were all having- proving that we dont have too argue- i think everyone agrees that the topic wasnt getting arguementative in anyway and i dont think it would have as we are all mature adults. A shame pix felt he had to block due to the immaturity of those shown on a.net (not what happens here)- could we at least not have a chance to prove we wouldnt have argued???

Well I think the thread was a good one - no one was bitching!

but at the same time can see pix's point..

mind you I think the thread makes a nice read as it and demonstrates people can discuss differing opinions without the need to bash those of others they happen to not agree with
