Operational Base

Latest rumours are that Virgin USA have shortlisted SFO or BOS for the base of their US low cost carrier.

BOS has the benefit of less competition from other LCCs and more people (East Coast), whereas SFO offers some attractive tie-up possibilities between Virgin USA, Virgin Atlantic and potentially Virgin Blue/Pacific Blue. SFO is also probably the most A380-ready airport in the US.

LAX, apparently, is out of the running despite the Guvornators personal request to Sir Richard.

According to Press Today RB is in talks with US Airways to buy parts of their operations, including possibly the Shuttle. Implies that the number of slots held at Boston and Washington are very atrractive.

Raymond,

VS have purchased the domain http://www.virginusa.com and we believe they will eventually use this, at the moment it re-directs to virgin.com US pages.

I think San Francisco would be a great place for the VirginUSA hub.

It's just a shame that Newark Liberty isn't in the running (though I understand the size limitations) as that was where it all started for VirginAtlantic in the USA etc. New York is after all, one of the three great global 'hub' cities (other two being of course London and Paris).

San Francisco would be a great choice though!

Any more info on Virgin USA? lets keep this thread alive! As for my interest: I am a commercial pilot living in the San Francisco area and VERY excited about the prospects of hosting the new airline. Any word on management? HR? all would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam.

Am I correct in making the assumption that, with Virgin USA, it could be possible to get VS tickets from the UK to destinations in the US serviced by the new airline? If that is the case then a hub on the East coast would be preferable from a UK perspective and Boston would be my choice now that the big dig is coming to an end. However, I suspect that the business will focus on the 'internal' market....

Is there a date yet (or at least a time of year) that Virgin USA will start up?

Thanks

Yeah, does anyone have any possible launch date info for Virgin USA? Everything appears to have gone quiet.
