I'll never forget the time he was on a quiz show on TV 'Think it was only TV but I like it' and Julian Clary took him to the cleaners.
'Do you do much work in the cockpit?'
Thanks,
Richard

I was sitting here scratching my head thinking...who the heck is Jeremy Spake..then I saw the pic on his website...I cannot think of anyone better suited to the job, actual in need of the job...
Of course this job would entail dealing with V-flyers who know about the airline then SRB and could rake him over the coals at every turn..I think we may of found our winner for who we get to interview/crucify if we are ever given the chance.

No sadly it's not a wind up. It's gone down like a lead balloon at LHR and various other areas of the company. It was quite the topic of discussion in the Canteen at Lunch.

Umm...
What exactly is he going to be in charge of, dare I ask...? [:0][V]

That brought a huge smile to my face ... well apart from the fact he did work in customer service (who was it for, EJ or BA or something) presumably the staffers feel there were internal candidates just as well or better qualified?
So do we get to see Jeremy flapping about at gates like he did on TV ... perhaps he's not really Head of CS but gate area entertainment???

Didn't he work for Aeroflot? I have vague memories of him speaking Russian.

No doubt, like all TV "celebs" he developed a persona for the camara that was somewhat different to his everyday character. It will be a tough job for him to shake off his TV personality, but I think it only fair to give him a chance to do so. He may turn out to be the best head of CS there has ever been, who knows. To me it feels very Virgin to apoint a controversial person to a high visibility role, and this I applaud.
So he started in a small job with aeroflot, got a lucky break with the TV and had a go at taking it further, The TV didn't work out for him (or whatever happened), and now he has a job at VS. Well done to him! Nothing in the preceeding precludes him from the HCS job, and some of it could be argued to have given him many of the skills to do the job.
I hope he does well - certainly areas of VS CS could do with the improvement.

Well it seems like a bit of a gimmick, but let's give the guy a chance!
At Aeroflot he worked (from what I saw on airline) as a supervisor at check in. He seemed to have great interpersonal skills, and did seem to genuinely care about his customers.
As long as his "stardom" hasn't gone to his head, and he has no dillusions of grandeur, he might do well - especially in the role of "customer facing experience".
Rich.

I agree completely that he should be given every chance to impress. Richard makes good points about his interpersonal skills and his 'care' - at least in front of the cameras

.
I can't say I have really followed his career since Airport, and would just question if he was the most 'qualified' person for this post of all the applicants VS must have got.
Ten out of ten for publicity value, we will await with interest before giving a score for delivery of service.

I think I saw this job advertised recently for 35k a year. If it is this job, this does not seem to be very high (or does London weighting get added). I thought Virgin would have pitched the salary higher. Is this job just a front or is it a real position? You get what you pay for in this world.

The salary, if it's right, might show just how much VS values customer service. *sigh*
