Although slots at LHR have been traded under the counter before, I wonder whether if an official marketplace for them will create crazy pricing wars like the 3G networks fiasco?

I suspect some airlines (bmi for instance, who have a lot of slots), would be tempted to sell a couple. It could be the difference between a loss or major profit in an operating year.

With the advent of T5 and the rumours of airport expansion / airlines moving rife at the moment, surely airlines would be reluctant to shell out big bucks for a such a potentially risky long term investment.
