staff

I've flown many times with VS and one particular instance will stand out - this was leaving JFK and hitting turbulence and one of the service staff having a slanging match with a lady who was heavily pregnant not being allowed to use the toilet. I thought it was disgusting-it almost ruined the flight if it wasn't so funny! It's all very well you saying "well the Virgin staff were just doing their job", but it's the WAY they do it that's important! There are many more instances I could type here. It seems that training of staff seems to occur on the actual flight itself rather than on the ground in the training room.[V]

I think there is not really enough substance in the OP for anyone to be able to make a reasoned comment really.

Tubelad,
Vote with your feet / wallet. If you don't like the service, go elsewhere and see what is better.

Any incident like this is the result of one person's observation on one particular flight. I could make the same kind of comments of poor service or rudeness about checkout staff at my local supermarket, train or tube drivers, a cab driver, the guy who fails to stop at a red light.

Stuff happens. If you don't like it, you are the customer.

I'm sure if what you say is true then the pregnant lady must have been very uncomfortable - however in turbulence there is a chance that she could have become much much more uncomfortable. Perhaps your interpretation of events may be questionable?

As to flat seats costing £3-5k, well recently sales have had some excellent trips bought for £1,200 and many UCS fares are a lot less that the figure you mention.

By all means have healthy debate - others have mentioned that, but clearly you have some personal chagrin to bear and such issues always become the most emotive.

Tubelad,
You may think that the mark up for PE or Upper is not worth it. Other people (or their employers) do. I usually fly on business, and my firm pays for Upper Class (or Business on most other airlines) to give staff facilities such as later check in, lounge access, fast track, space to work, flat beds to sleep and so on. They also pay the premium for fully flexible fares.

One of the reasons your Economy class tickets on any airline are good value is because there are a bunch of people at the sharp end subsidising you.

Again, right over my head I am afraid. I have not got a clue what you are getting at. Is it sarcasm you are trying? Is the comment directed at me, or someone else, or the world in general? What does "i you" mean?

You know, we are all dying to hear your views about G-VBUS. Don't keep us in suspense[:X]

Why is it I always miss the fun?

ok i'll try and figure out what was said and reply to it.

While I agree that it must have been a bad situation for the lady it could of been far worse,I have been on aircraft during heavy turbulance where I have seen people thrown into the ceiling, they were lucky, they were not badly hurt, however the though of a pregnant lady getting throw around a cabin make's my skin crawl.

Ok on to the pricing issue.

I am one of those people that pays the extra to sit in a PE or UC class of cabin,I choose to do it because, well honestly, the thought of sitting for 9-12 hrs in a seat with a 31 inch seat pitch ranks right up there with the great exam we men must get when we turn 40,I don't look foward to it,I don't want it and I will do anything in my power to have it not happen to me.

I save my money and my miles and I travel in a class that I am comfortable in.

Doctor told me not to bother as they had no reference data so they wouldn't be able to interpret the results...

The main problem with the camera is when you start to come round before they have removed it[B)][:$] Remember the scene from alien when it comes out of her stomach[:$]

Safety comes first and if she was not listening to us then we do and re allowed to become asertive.

If the A/c had dropped and she was in the washroom she would have been very hurt not to mention the baby and its us the crew and you the customers that would have to see it all.

My guess would be that the INITIAL reaction from the crew was probably not as you describe.

As VITB mentions above, if the passenger was not listening (and therefore breaking the law by not following a crewmember's instructions) especially during turbulence, I'd expect the crew to become more assertive towards her.

While uncomfortable, even you agree that it was the CORRECT thing to do to ensure she remained seated.

Great point, virgin is the best - and thanks for bringing this post back to ahh...less worrying topics;)

Sometimes it's very hard for people to deal with difficult customers and I'm sure the FA was doing the best they could.

Cheers,
