An interesting article for those who like to remember the days when real food was served in coach.

Can't say its an unexpected take on the situation. What's perhaps more surprising is that I am not sure I really care. It could be argued that hot meals are so difficult to do well at 35000ft, that it is preferable to do a "snack of substance" - sandwiches, chocolate, drink, and that's about it. My own POV is that I don't really look forward to the meal in Y anyway, and to be honest would be just as happy having competition drive the price down and take along a sandwich box myself!

I dont know about that,i've had some great meals in Y at 35k,to be honest the meals in VS and BA Y take a lot of beating..then again im a curry guy so im happy.

I dont look forward to the plastic tray either, but yes if you look back over the years at the declining quality of Y meals it is a sad state of affiars. I recall going on a flight with my Uncle on BA in Y when i was a youngster (ok, younger!) and i remember getting 'afternoon tea' and having a scone and a sandwich. The sandwich wasnt some rubbish either, it was on sunblush tomato bread and it was really nice. I remember thinking that airline food rocked! If i flew with BA in Y now - id be lucky to even get a meal, and it certainly wouldnt be of that sort of quality!

Obviously its all about supply and demand, but from a nostalgia point of view, i remember the days when real food was served in coach and i think its a shame that it has all changed for low cost and convenience.

No, no Highfly. I think you were right the first time when you said "when I was a youngster" . As one who is now getting his second wind, trust me when I tell you that the late 20's to early 30's are a difficult age - it now takes you much longer to do what you used to want to do for a very long time, but you have not reached the age yet where you realise what you wanted to do for a very long time was a waste of time anyway, and nowhere nearly as much fun as sailing (if you see what I mean!). But do not loose all hope - it won't be too long before you are 40.

Which reminds me, don't tell anyone {shush}, but we have a 40th birthday coming up very soon on v-flyer;)

For someone who has been doing transatlantic travel for 25 years, I have seen considerable changes in the menu offerings over the years, but at the same time seen substantial savings in the price paid for a ticket[y][y]

If the demand remains for cheaper air travel (and I see no reason for it to alter) then we must all expect that some things have to be foregone[:?]

Very bad new for you Chuck and the VF readership. Looks like I will be in J.

I hopefully upgraded my X fare to a B fare then used miles to upgrade to G. I say hopefully because at the end of the call the agent said "Oh sh@t!. I will have to call the rates desk. How may I reach you Mr. K?"
