Decided to take advantage of the cheap Z fares to Dubai at the end of March to get some more tier points (good enough excuse as any to fly ucs again). I could really do with some advice on hotels as we have never been there before. 4 or 5 star near beach and golf with a bit of character would be ideal. Thanks in advance for any tips or help.

4 or 5 star hotels in Dubai may well eat all of your savings from that Z fare getting over there... [:?][:0]

Tony
Quite a few V-Flyers are already taking advantage of the Dubai flights, and there are lots of discussions and hints already on the site.
I think
this thread is the best one about hotels, but if you use the keyword 'Dubai' in the search facility, you will find lots of ideas.

I have noticed though, that the prices of hotels seem to have jumped somewhat compared to a couple of years ago. Maybe it is because it is now established as a popular holiday destination for Brits [?]

Thanks guys, you brought me back to reality. I am now looking at recommended 4*'s. Guess I got a bit carried away with the cheap flights.

Sorry... [:I]
Still - there ARE some great hotels there that won't break the bank [y]

Following Nicks advice I used the search feature which showed a lot of comments on 2 of the dearest hotels. What would be great if any of our members had been out there lately and enjoyed a stay at a good hotel with character. When I travel europe I tend to stick to Best Westerns as these never tend to let me down. IMHO dearest doesn't always equate to best.

Hi Tony
Im out in DXB with a few V-Flyers at the end of March and had similar issues in finding hotels (which you probably saw if you read any of the older DXB threads) If you haven't already, try searching through Expedia and LastMinute.com to check out some rates for Dubai.
It really depends on how much are you looking at spending per night, but if you are after a good deal, there are low rates to be had at the Hilton Dubai Creek and also Four Points Sheraton
Good luck

Highflyer thanks for that. It looks like there is a chance that this could become a mini mini V-Flyer party of some sort! However, whilst I have met Mcuth once and I think he's a great guy and even greater drinker I hope[:w]he's not out there as I couldn't afford to match him round for round. We are out on the 29th March when are the other V-flyers going?

Highflyer. Just read up on all of the Dubai posts. I note you are meeting up with Sky and Michja for a meal, any chance my wife and I could join. If affirmative we will sell one of our kids as I have noticed where you are eating (and staying) PS are you an international diamond thief/bank robber?

Honey Lamb, We have been looking at that hotel. Do you recommend it and if so what do you reckon is a good rate. Sorry we are there before you get out there as my wife Jackie is a very keen golfer (I just play)and I reckon she could have given your other half a run for his money

Well I haven't been there yet but I liked the look of it and the reviews on Tripadvisor were positive. I think the rate worked out at just under £170 per night including taxes at 20% - the confirmation page was in dirhams. Certainly a lot less than the Burj al Arab

Unfortunately I am! That's when I'm in HK on my return from OZ. Now if you could extend it till 6:00am the following day I might be able to make the tail end of it [:w]

You've not been brought up to speed with Mcuths drinking habits have you? (I think the VH Party carried on until about 5am, so be careful what you wish for ...)

Well I was rather tongue in cheek when I said that as I realised tha party could be just winding down. I would not be one whit surprised to find a welcoming party for VS201 in Revivals [:o)]

Hahaha ... could easily get to Revivals on the way back from getting a Kebab!!
Tony - you sure you want to socialise with us in DXB after reading all this?

HighFlyer. Must apologise now. It is you that should worry as my wife and I are in the British olympic drinking team.

LOL - if only I could win the lottery before then, this sounds like a challenge

Cheers
