Ideas for an early April break.

My friend fancies going on a few days break somewhere with me in April for a spot of spring sunshine. More than likely in Europe, possibly spain or the like.
I'm in charge of organising it (which is good really) but am coming up as a loss where to go apart from the usual places.

Anybody know of any hip beachside hotels, city boltholes or genrally any cool destination we should visit. Probably will be working to a moderate budget but I'll try and get her to spend as much as possible :D.

Any locations to impress her with..

Dean

Costa Del Sol and the surrounding area should give you warm sun in April (just) and you must know there are several 'hip' area around there.

Some parts of Mallorca are becoming extremely hip (and very expensive to suit) but April is only just becoming warm enough.

Nice/Cannes/Monaco very hip and cheap flights but will be too cool in April

Not quite Europe (though getting that way) but the Red Sea Rivera always gets my vote. Its different to Spain in that there are no hoards of lager louts or any trouble, its not a 'pub and club' break, just lots of sunshine, good food, and nights walking along the beach, or into town to grab dinner and then smoke the Shisha!

Filghts are either restricted to charter, or indirect through BA (though Egypt Air do seem to do Sunday flights to SSH now) You can fly with the lovely Excel Airways quite cheaply, but darn its awful - as i have had the unfortunate pleasure of finding out!

Once your there, lovely hot temperatures, clean beaches and sea teaming with fish and coral, and a crime free town with the cheapest food! Meal for two at the Hard Rock came in at about £9 last time i was there. Lots of good hotels, about 3 Hiltons, the Hyatt and the Four Seasons stick in my mind. And of course, fab diving!!

Well worth considering, i love SSH very much, i just wish that more airlines flew there.

Well now we are throwing the towell in on Europe:D:D, then how about DXB, flights are cheap, but apparently accomodation is expensive at the moment. Weather is good though. You could always fly to DXB and stay somewhere a little further off such as Shajah (lovely place)

Hi Dean, just following on from Sarah's point re BA only offering indirect services to SSH, you can actually fly direct. They started the service a few months back, three times a week LGW - SSH, we used it in Dec. BA also now fly direct 3 times a week LGW to Hurghada, so a choice of two airports in that part of Red Sea.
Hope this helps,

Cheers, James

Marrakesh .. mmm .... Would love that!!!

James - Thanks for that, good to know! I heard BA were starting but hadnt ever seen a direct flight. Makes me very tempted to look into a trip there for a spot of last minute sun! Flights into Hurghada? Most interesting!!

...yes, it seems that BA (operated by GB) are extending their operations a fair bit. Last summer they started a service to Crete which was so successful they're extending the frequency for this summer, also this year they're starting up to Rhodes! Makes a real change having the option of a scheduled service!

Dean I have stayed at La Mamounia Hotel in Marrakech which I loved and recommend it.

I also stayed in Casablanca and visited Rabat but not out of choice and wouldn't do so again, but that's another story.

The souks in Marrakech are well worth a visit but only do this with a guide.

I travelled GB airways (short stop in Gibraltar) which was OK but it's only a short flight anyway.

How about Madeira? Classy hotels/clubs/Casinos and good restaurants. No louts with footy shirts evident when we went and weather was good(Nov). Thomas Cook do reasonable flights. Reids Palace Hotel was due
to be refurbished but I think should be finished for April.

Well it certainly isn't hot and sunny. But I don't know about being cold at that time of year - it has always been a bit grey, but cold? Nah!

I'm a hot weather type of person. To me grey = cold. TBH I hate english winters and would swap it all for the constant heat of somewhere like Florida and even take the humidity and storms to get away from grey, cold and damp UK weather.
