Hi all :D

Coud someone please give me a bit of information. I'm already a Virgin CC holder and at moment have the £1=1 mile card, would I be allowed to apply for the £2=2 miles card and more importantly, would I receive the 4000 miles bonus when making my first purchase [:?]

Certainly changing the card won't be a problem, there are several stories of people doing it in the forums. As far as the bonus is concerned, I would give the Members Shop a ring, they will advise.

Am thinking of doing something similar. Currently, mr cat and myself have separate cards, but there seems little point - might as well have just one account and an additional card holder - even less point in having 2 cards and paying the - £80 is it? - twice. Would be able to combine our points though?

My understanding is that the miles will be credited to the primary account holder (ie he/she who pays the bill)so the second card holder will not earn miles of their "own" but will contribute to the account of the primary card holder. However if you allways travel together there shouldn't be a problem with that (and if Mr Cat is the primary and pays the bill even better!!).

Julie is right, whoever is the main card holder will have their FC account number on the CC account, so all expenditure from the primary car and any secodary cards will be turned into FC miles and credited directly to the main cardholders account.

Pooling the miles into one account is ideal if you do not travel too regularly as you get to a more useable figure quickly, plus you stand a greater chance of spending the £15k per annum to earn the Companion Voucher.

Thanks,
Sarah

It works fine for me too, Sarah. My account looks healthier and healthier each day, but as for the present Mrs Treelo's account.......[:p]

But does your bank balance look decidedly unhealthy after the present Mrs Treelo has plenished your FC account with another zillion miles? I used to do the same to Mr dragonlady but he wised up,took my secondary card off me and now makes me pay my own bills (boo hoo).

I have the 1=1 card and just rung Customer Services who said they couldnt switch it to 1=2 and fee card. Instead I need to apply for a new card, then do a balance transfer, I would get extra 4,000 but not carry on my qualification towards partner flight, that would restart... hmm!

Hi Graham

Yes, AFAIK, there isnt a way that MBNA can simply swap you to the 2 mile earning card from the 1 mile earning, you need to reapply, although it wont be as complex as your first application and they can carry your credit limit and points over with you.

Im not sure what you mean about but not carrying on your qualification towards a partner flight? Are you referring to Membership Shop points?

Thanks,
Sarah

I assume this refers to the annual spend required to qualify for a companion ticket. Hence the spending to date from the previous card will not be carried forward to the new card.

Yes, that is what I meant. Sorry for not being clear enough.

No worries. Shame that being issued by the same bank etc.. they cannot link the spending from your old card to the new one. I suppose you have to decide between hanging on until you get the companion ticket then switching, or biting the bullet and switching now but having to start the 12 month/£15,000 spending clocks ticking again!

Yeah, tough one! I shall have a think, maybe I will contact the members shop again and explain the situation and see what they say. I'll post an update after I have spoken to/emailed them.
