Hi all,

You're always so helpful with any questions I've had, so I hope you won't mind a few more.

Pondering an October holiday in Toronto and NYC. Can't decide whether to fly out to BOS or NYC, then get a flight to Toronto. Surprised how much the flight would cost too, any low cost carriers that don't appear on Travelocity? NYC has a small advantage at the moment as I could get a 747, which I think is better as I may upgrade with miles to Upper Class on the way out. Is there any reason I should fly via BOS though?

How long should I leave for transfers at the airport? If I did take VS003 and land at 16:40, what's the earliest I should book my flight to Toronto for?

VH's selection of Toronto hotels is also a bit poor, but as I can get 10% off, maybe I'll just go for one of those anyway.

I can't aswer all of your questions but you might find this useful.

To get to Toronto from the airport there are shuttle buses available from right outside the arrivals area. They are fairly quick and the views as you approach the city are stunning. I remember it taking 30 to 40 minutes for the transfer. The buses run between the main bus station and the airport but stop off at a few major hotels.

For NYC why not go by train? There is a service that takes about 8 hours between Toronto and NYC and it is supposed to have some amazing scenery. I believe you can also stop off at Niagara (but don't quote me on that). I know for definite you can get a bus to Niagara (its a NICE bus!) and then a train to NYC after you go over to the American side of the falls.

Mike, personally I'd opt for BOS (as I normally do when travelling up to Montreal).

I've never left myself less than 2 hours (and that's always in UC, so first off the plane) to transfer and grab the Air Canada flight from BOS up later on. Remember that you'll have to clear US Immigration/Customs before getting to your Canadian flight.

Once you land with VS, you just re-check your bag at the counter on the left after customs and walk out of terminal E. Terminal C's on your left (about 30yds) and walk straight to check-in (if you're not already checked through).


I've tried it through NYC before - and honestly, it was a joke. The whole thing took at least an extra hour - the transfer between terminals was messy, and the lines were much longer at each step of the process.

If you're heading to Canada, head to Boston


(PS - for the "low cost" flight options, use Air Canada's booking engine to find a "Tango/Jazz" ticket. They're actually quite cheap, but that'll entirely depend on the season )

I like the idea of getting the train to New York. Will have to have a google round the net to see how it would work

I will phone the FC on Tue and see if they have any availability for the dates I was looking at. Maybe I should consider a few days in Boston too instead of just flying straight out of there!

It's a 12h30m journey between Toronto and New York by train. Think I'll stick with finding a plane

An earlier question was asked about low cost carriers appearing on Travelocity. It doesn't happen. One of the ways LCCs keep their Cs L is by not paying commission to "resellers" such as Expedia and Travelocity.

If you want to find out which carriers / routes serve a particular airport, you could try checking the airport website itself.
