I think they folded not long after 9/11. I remember them having their own departure gate (Gate 205, T2 @ MAN) and bar. Right next to the gate where the plane was standing where I would my flying, VS and 747 virginity to!
The bar is still there, but no evidence left of Virgin Sun. However, their name kept appearing in some travel brochures as flights for a few years after they folded.

They were sold to First Choice in 2001.

That explains their continuous presence in the brochures.

I believe that their code was in fact VS but being charter they used VS's 3 code sign which is VIR. So it would be VIR9812 to Palma for example.

Have looked around the net and haven't been able to find a two-letter IATA code for Virgin Sun.
VS.

It was defiitely a charter code of VIR as Willd said - I not only flew on them but also sold many packages when I was a TA.

The reason why it operated under VS's charter code of VIR was because Virgin Sun used Virgin Atlantics Operator license- it was a division of VS in theory- remember at the time VS operated the a320 family with services to ATH.
