BA leaves TBS's luggage at LGW ( outbound) to DFW

On 27 May, my parents and I flew EDI-LGW-DFW ( BA Club) for 2 weeks in LAS & PHX.
At EDI ( 0500) our bags were tagged all the way through to DFW and we were given our bp's for the LGW-DFW leg.
Flight across was good but when arriving at DFW after waiting at baggage reclaim for 30mins a container came out with "last bag" and our bags were not on it. ( 4 bags for the three of us)
We went to the baggage desk and were told that they had not been loaded onto the LGW-DFW flight ( 3 hour layover) as our bags were not recorded against our names ( despite having bp's issued). The baggage agent said this was apparently a lgitch with internet check in.
We were flying out DFW-LAS on AA the following afternoon and the agent took our details down and said the bags would be sent to DFW on the next day's DFW flight then cleared thorugh customs and put onto an AA flight to LAS then instructed AA to deliver it to our hotel ( Hilton Garden Inn)
The agent then gave us a Visa Debit card with $600 ( $200 each) to buy clothes etc ( as we only had the clothes we were travelling in)
After checkin at the Grand Hyatt DFW instead of an afternoon by the pol we had to get a hotel shuttle to Grapevine Mills outlet center to buy the essentials ( we went into the JC penny outlet center where we got shorts for $10, tshirts for $6 etc( adequate but nothing too fancy)
We then had to go to a Target to but the essential toiletries.
The next day arriving in LAS we thought we would nt see the bags till late that night or the next day ( as by the time the BA flight landed there was only 2 hours before our AA flight left) so when we walked past the bag reclaim I was surprised to see what looked like one of our bags on the belt so I walked over and it was one of ours!!
All ofur came out in short order so it was quite good of BA/AA to get the bags transferred quickly to the AA flight.
Whilst the $200 per person was adequate it does not make up for the inconvenience.
On the way back we had been booked on the BA 2936 LGW-EDI flight and bags checked through from DFW. It was only at home that we realised that the bags had been taged at DFW for the BA 2946 ( leaving at 2100 rather than 0925) and handwritten stickers had been put on for the BA 2936 flight ( I did ask at the BA F lounge at LGW if our bags were going to be on our flight and the agent said yes). I do not know when the error on the tags were corrected.
It just goes to show-always check your baggage tag recipts to prevent unpleasant surprises but even then it might not work.
