Evening all,
I have just been told that I will be staying at the Sofitel at LGW North Terminal for a comfortable nights sleep before my flight out to MCO. I have never stayed in a Sofitel before and would be grateful for any comments / advice to help make my stay more enjoyable.
I have got an Executive Room so I will get access to the Executive Lounge. Obviously I would love to know what exactly I can expect from this stay and so I have been surfing the net. But, I seem to be getting some conflicting information and would like to seek the wisdom and knowledge of the “eldermen/ elderwoman” of the forum.

What can I expect from an Executive Room and Lounge at a Sofitel??
Many thanks,

Thanks jetwet for such a speedy response (4 minutes[y])
I have had a look over on TripAdvisor but there aren't any posts about the Executive Rooms, or perhaps my tired eyes haven't seen them[|)]
I have been told that the hotel has been totally refurbished since it was taken over by Sofitel so I hope it is better than the last time you stayed.

This hotel has changed hands a number of times in the last couple of years. It was good when it was a Meridien, then it went bad. Sofitel took it over and started refurb and now I think it is also part of the Arora chain. All the rooms have been done up. Have not seen the exec lounge but if it is in the same place as before on the 8th floor has a fantastic view of the north terminal, runway and remote stands.

quite nice bars - and has a lovely atrium - rooms okay - quite posh front desk. not been in lounge.
though I tend to get out to the terminal for dinner and beverages

The wife and I always stay at this hotel when we fly out of Gatwick. We have stayed about a dozen times or so over the last few years and have never had a problem.
The executive rooms are/were not much different to the other rooms but one advantage is a better view of the runway. The lounge was nothing special either but it again has a good view of north terminal and partial runway.
Our last stay was in December not long after sofitel had taken over. There were not any great changes that had taken place at the time. The main restaurant had dropped off a bit to what it used to be but there are plenty of dining options around the airport. We used to opt for room service more often than not.
Being both very fussy there was only one occasion on which we had to complain about the room that we had been given, we were promptly moved to a cleaner less Smokey non smoking room.
Since our last stay I believe that all rooms have now been refurbished and they look very nice on the hotel web page.
For an airport hotel I think this is a perfectly acceptable hotel and I am hopeful that you will have very little to complain about during your stay.
