San Diego to Six Flags Magic Mountain

Evening all.
I have a question for any of our West Coast American cousins. How far is it and how long would it take to drive from San Diego to Six Flags Magic Mountain. Looking at the map I can see that the route is straight up I5 but as it goes through LA I'm guessing we will have normal LA traffic to contend with, i.e. slow.
The reason I ask is we're trying to decide what time we would need to get up in the morning to get there for opening at 10.00am
Thanks for your help

Leave early the 5 shouldn't be to bad heading out of San Diego however once you reach Orange county you could be in trouble, then you have to go through LA itself where you will find gridlock till at least 10am.
I would figure on a 4 hr trip [:0],however if you leave early you could always stop for breakfast somewhere once you get north of LA and into the valley.

Thanks Jetwet,
I think we'll aim to leave around 6.00 and if we get there early have a bite to eat as suggested.
Once again you have been extremely helpful.

Not a problem, have you booked your hotel in San Diego yet?
If not take a look at priceline and use this great
site as a guide on what to bid.
Edit: to fix link

Hi Jetwet,
Yep hotels are all booked for this trip. I've never used priceline but now I've seen the info on the link I might give them a try.
By the way if you keep being this helpful I'll have to buy you a drink when we're in Vegas next month[8D].

I should think you're looking at LEAST 4 hours, and its going to depend on which day. Also, think carefully about the timing of the return trip v versus the rush hour.
