Flying in India

Now that I'm signed up to an Indian firm, travel to Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai is very much on the agenda. I'll probably use Mumbai as the gateway (so ensuring miles and tier points on VS), and would welcome any tips from people who have travelled on VS through Mumbai and connected to other cities. For example, descriptions of procedures, airport tips, airline tips, or anything useful.

THanks

I have been in India for the better part of a year and I would suggest the following:

Internal airlines use Jet Airways. Prompt and efficient service. Avoid Air Deccan at all costs. Kingfisher are good (if only for their recruiting policy with cabin staff - if they can't fit into the 'one size fits all skirt' they don't get the job!'

Flying through Mumbai is preferred to Delhi - it is a little more civilized.

Connecting in Mumbai requires collecting luggage, and taking a bus from one terminal to the other, and re-clearing security. And remember to get your baggage x-rayed BEFORE arriving at check-in otherwise you WILL be sent away and to the back of the queue. Oh, and when arriving in India, fill out both the arrival form and the tiny customs slip. It is amazing the chaos that ensues with people not having filled it out!

As for hotels, In Bangalore I can suggest both the Leela Palace and the Taj Residency. In Mumbai the J W Marriot in Juhu has been a very pleasant place to stay.

If you have any more specific questions ask away and I will see what I can do. And if youÕre in Bangalore before mid-august, drop me a line. I can suggest a few good bars and places to eat!
