Full Marriott statement here

All US and Canada properties will become non-smoking throughout. Fine for me, but then again, I don't smoke... [:w]

So, who's next? Place your bets please :)

The change in policy will start in September, and guests who smoke in hotel rooms face a clean-up fee ranging from $200 to $300, according to the story.

Best Western in NY and the Hilton in Albuquerque are both smoke free zones - I guess it is pretty wide spread in the US. So as to who's next, I would say the UK.

I understand the river boat is now smoke free, even on deck. Should make for an interesting evening watching the smokers swimming along behind!

Westin have gone non smoking as well, also this nov there is a vote on banning smoking inside building where the general public may be present,of course they didn't think that that would include all the casinos as well [:?]

The "beginning" happened a few months ago for us here in Scotland. There is no smoking in all inclosed spaces - except private homes.

I think its worded something like no smoking in any places of work which virtually means the above. (Its even banned in company vehicles)

Makes a huge difference coming back from a night out not smelling like an ashtray [}:)]

Well, folks, in the US it's pretty much non-smoking all the time, no matter where you want to light up -- inside buildings, that is. People have taken to huddling in tight little circles outside the entrances to buildings, sharing ciggies and conversation.
