Don't expect your miles this month

Hi All,
Just got my 1st statement through for my newly converted Virgin Atlantic Amex card. It usually says at the bottom
''you have earned X miles this month''
It didn't. Checked my FF account online, no credited miles. They usually go in the same day. So i call up and the great lady investigated it for me. Apparently this will happen across the board this month as there was some loss in connection form the FF accounts and the MC and then the new Amex card. So she said everyone may not receive their miles this month but they will obviously be calculated and credited next month. Just a heads up for everyone

Yeah, same here. I was told it might take longer than a month though.

I also asked for someone to calculate my miles and let me know what they should have been this month. I've been here with the MC and ended up having to fight for my miles! LOL! I hope no-ones waiting on miles for anything, that would be so frustrating.

What a bum!, I've got 59,700 mile and was waiting for my credit (usually around the 26th) to take me over 60,000 miles. I was planning on booking a reward flight PE to Dubai in the spring.

Mine appeared on the 13th as usual, so you may be ok. Maybe the FC will let you go overdrawn as it's only 300 miles? Hopefully they'll be aware of the problem with MBNA.

It may be worth having a chat with FC about this, I have read instances of people being allowed to go into miles debt in some cases. Maybe if you can prove the miles earning and the problem they would allow you.

No harm in trying.

You'd like to think so, especially if you've earned the miles and the error is their end.

Man thats annoying... any idea when the 10,000 miles get posted to your FC account when you have spent on your new amex card also?

Why do they never get it right first time? Why is it always a real surprise when ANYONE ever gets it right first time????[:?]

Because they can get away with this poor service, and the cynic in me thinks that the effort required to get the service advertised puts people off claiming for what they are owed. 2 examples:

1) I applied for a BA Amex card, with 5000 miles bonus. The bonus took 3 phone calls and much waiting on the end of a phone before they were posted 3 months later, despite the advertising saying 'after first transaction'

2) Companion awards on MBNA card. Again, I had to chase it rather than it just happening automatically. The new awards system for the MBNA Amex card are just going to make it worse. I can see the calls now to Flying Club when people try to use their Economy-PE upgrade and are told "Sorry, it's not on your Flying Club account, try calling MBNA" and then being pushed from department to department. It should just happen.

In an ideal world of course, there'd be penalties for advertising these benefits and not delivering them....

David.

Maybe we should be asking for 'interest' on the miles they haven't got round to posting....:D

That is the best idea I have ever heard... bravo! [y]

I had a call back yesterday and was told no miles will be credited until SEPTEMBERS statement [V]I was not happy to say the least. Why can the CC companies NEVER get it right? Sorry moan over [:I]

Fantastic idea - why don't we all pester them for that! They are quick enough to add on interest for anything, so it should work both ways. :)

Maybe we should draft out a letter... no point is an email, since nobody ever bothers to reply... or maybe that's just me?

Because the primary drive will always be to get the cards out there making money through merchant fees and interest / late payment charges. Anything else is a nuisance and something of a necessary evil to get the cards in consumers' pockets. It will always come a poor second in terms of getting operations and systems to support it up and running.

I wonder what the t&c's state or imply about failure to meet the advertised standards in terms of crediting the miles to your account?

It's inevitably going to be something along the lines of "We will not be responsible for the failure of any system however caused blah blah blah" but of course as the customer we will receive absolutely no similar allowance for any problem with making payment on time etc. The arrangement is completely one-sided to favour them.

I can't believe that MBNA would somehow be unable to credit miles until September though, that just doesn't wash as an excuse. Any provider is able to make a miles credit at anytime, as MBNA miles credit must be being done throughout a month as people have different statement dates. I don't mind the miles being a bit late ( computers do hiccup from time to time ) but I'm still expecting that if the miles are late, they shouldn't be more than a couple of weeks late at most.

Otherwise, I won't be a happy bunny....

David.

As you can see, Flying Club miles are not shown on this statement but don't worry, all miles earned will be reflected on your Flying Club account in August. From next month your credit card statement will also show Flying Club miles earned

The above is printed on my latest Credit Card statement.... So miles should appear in August, not September as some others have been told.

Not getting a warm glow about this guys. My statement showed the miles earned, the bill was paid on 23 Jul but no miles have appeared in my FC account - yet [:(!]

I received the latest statement on 24th July and found the same problem. Straight away I called the number on the statement and was told the marketing team would sort out within 5 working days, which they've done!

I checked my flying club account today on a whim and all my miles have been credited. Maybe the woman on the phone meant August? Anyway, situation resolved. [:?]

I had over 6500 miles credited to my FC account on 1st August. My 10th August statement for the Virgin card says I have earnt 210.44 flying club miles this month. (Yes, it is a full stop in the number - 210.44 miles)

My card changed over from Mastercard to Amex about two thirds of the way through the statement month - but the miles figures are not right. I'll probably leave it until the September statement to see if things correct themselves & give the members shop a call if they don't.

Received my 10K miles on the 1st of August as well. I must have been lucky as I have had no problem with the changeover and I am still using my MC card until it expires.

Whilst I received my first lot of miles on the 1st August, my latest statement has appeared but the miles have not, which normally appear the same day as the statement, so I wonder if they will just add them on the 1st of every month instead? [?]
