MaxJet - Bargain Business Fares?

After JetWet's
experience of MaxJet there has been some interest in it, particularly when you look at the fares. Instead of high-jacking his TR I thought it best to start a new thread to discuss this.
I've just checked the website to see how much our Halloween trip would cost with them. They don't fly out on a Saturday so flying out Sunday and back on the Wednesday (v short trip I know) would be £998 including taxes, £855 if they had availability in their cheapest fare bucket.
The only downer being that we would have to get back from Stanstead rather then Heathrow which is quite good for going north.
Its going to be interesting to see how this affects other airlines as word and experience spreads.

What I find most interesting is there is no Saturday night minimum stay requirement on the pricing I've seen.
e.g. out on 28th Sept ( Thu ), return 29th Sept ( Fri )
MaxJet - £1000
VS PE - £1500
VS UC - £4355 [:0]
So this is fantastic if you want to fly to New York / Washington but not stay a Saturday night i.e. just for business.
Edited to say : Obviously it's also very good pricing if you're going for non business!
David.

M11 - A14 - A1 or M11 - A14 - M6 are all easy routes going north. Not that there aren't problems with the A14 around Cambridge, but it pales into insignificance compared the M25.

They have adverts all over the London Underground network. I suspect their biggest problem will be getting business passengers to abandon their love of the relatively short trip to LHR. It would be an easier sell to those who are used to trekking out to LGW from central London.

Well if you are close to Liverpool street station it's not a big deal getting out to STN,however if you are driving you may as well pack a lunch.
A couple of thing's to look for on MY.
Keep an eye out for sale's,they seem to be pretty much monthly and can cut the price in half.
There is no saturday night stay because, well they have no saturday night flight from JFK.
I am waiting for details, but it seems that if you book 4 for more people on a flight they will give you a better price and I do mean BETTER,but again waiting for details.
For the price I compare it to VS PE/BA WT+ in which case the service and comfort blow them away, there is no contest.UC and Club would be a different story, but for the price I would have to take a long hard look at it.
The FF club is....well awful...but again you have to balance out the cost of the flight's against it.
So I guess if the prices stay low then the choice is yours,if the prices go up then it's a flip a coin time.

We're seriously thinking of using them on our next trip to NYC - Stansted is great for us to get to, mr cat used to travel regularly from there on business and it took him around 30 mins - as opposed to 50 mins to Gatwick and 90 to Heathrow - on a clear run. It'd be a welcome relief to see more transatlantic flights leaving from there.

Have to say that for my next private trip to New York MaxJet is looking a seriously better prospect than VS. If only to try it, however £1,000 each compared to £1,500 each in PE with the lottery that is the airplane, quality of food, ability of VS to get on time departures, latest snip and cut ... I would miss the CH however!

Well I can understand missing the clubhouse, the lounges at JFK and STN are nice, nowhere near clubhouse nice, but they are nice.
The lounge at STN used to be the SAS lounge and you can tell, very IKEA like, blond oak floors etc,no real food is offered however there are light snacks.

For some of the silly fares that you pay to fly to places such as MCO at Xmas, MY seem a real alternative. MCO leaving on 14 Dec currently is silly money (when last looked VS was up in £650 mark for Y!) MY were £515 on the same date in business- granted only to JFK but still you will get a much better service.....hmmm so tempted for march!

Then take DL or B6 down to MCO,still that is the long way around.

For the average traveller (ie not Gold), you can think of Maxjet as being in the same ball park fare-wise as PE or WT+ and then missing the Clubhouse isn't relevant. I haven't travelled with Maxjet but from what I've read, it sounds like it knocks spots off PE (lounge access of some sort, better seats, better food etc). It might sound strange, but there's also something nice about being the best class there is on the aircraft (no flat beds to eye up enviously). It's no Upper Class, but I would seriously consider it against PE.

I don't know too much about MJ, but do you think the service they are offering will force VS/BA to look at the PE service they offer, I know VS are revamping there PE service but if they are looking at losing pax to MJ then surely they must need to act sooner rather than later.

I dont know about that,I get the feeling that both BA and VS will look at it like MY are at STN,they only have a couple of flight's right now so why bother wiht a major revamp.
Of course BA is starting to redo their aircraft fitting it with AVOD and redoing the NNNCW seats.
