Wow, not something you see everyday! That DC-9 was doing some speed, how did that lot not go up in flames.

Im not an expert on aircraft design but I assume that the reason there were no flames is that any fuel is not in the areas where the aircraft had the impacts - rear of one and the top of the coclpit on the other.

I do find it a bit strange though that the incoming "fast" plane - was not able to/ take any kind of avoiding action - either thru noise wheel or rudder

Actually, the incoming plane hit the starboard wing, which contains fuel - hence why the audio commentary talks about fuel pouring out all over the place...

Ummm, again, the audio commentary explains this - there was a total loss of hydraulics during taxiing after landing..

I dont normally bother to turn the sound up when there are adverts and US reporters babbling on!!
