Interesting article in todays USATODAY.

It goes into the effects on airlines if the price of oil were to reach $100 a barrel or $3 a gallon for JET A.

Kind of scary to think of the effects on the airlines in general.

This will be the death sentence of many small airlines if oil reaches (and exceeds) $100 a barrel. Air fares will go up even nigher and fuel surcharges will not disguise the high fare that customers will end up paying.

I personally reckon that oil will reach $100 a barrel by this time next year maybe sooner, so my advice to people on this forum will be that if you're thinking of booking an air ticket with Virgin (or any other airline) book it now while prices are still low and while surcharges are at their current level.

As for me, we've not decided yet where to go so we'll probably end up paying high prices[:I]
