Just got an email from Maxjet.

Do to my constant badgering Maxjet is proud to announce a third route in thier system.

Their next airport is Las Vegas baby ! [^]

Flights will be on monday and thursday.

prices start at $1999 inc. tax

Will VS have to review their pricing structure for this route now that Maxjet is in direct competition[?]

I hope so,but I dont think they will.

That's 3 direct services from the UK to Vegas, with only 2 from London.

So, they're VS' ONLY competition on that route.

Have heard that MCO is also being looked at.

Brilliant, I predict a price war. And Stansted is a much easier drive for me too.....

Hmmm, I don't see anyone reducing their fares, after all Maxjet hasn't had one iota of difference on the New York or Washington fares and VS's are still consistenly high.

PS Globespan are offering Las Vegas from Glasgow in addition to BMI from Manchester and now Maxjet from Stanstead - if VS had more metal I feel sure there'd be more direct flights, since they appear to be full, frequently, and there's growing demand. I can't imagine why BA aren't doing Las Vegas direct ...

Oh my, just pricing up Xmas/New Year - Outbound 21st Dec, inbound 4th Jan: £998 all in (£942 before taxes!) - that'll be a serious tempter.....if I get a job before then

Stansted is a pain for me but at those prices and given the good reviews it has to be considered. Could it be a Maxjet party bus in 2007 guys?

I'm south London, so Stansted is not the most convenient, but realistically it's only 15 minutes further away than LHR and at Maxjet prices it really isn't a difficult choice.

Agreed, it is only a bit further for me than LGW so not so bad really.

Its still rubbish for us northern boys, but whats new, worth considering for our LAS trip next Sept depending on what prices VS come back with, we are seriously thinking of giving MaxJet a try early in the new year for a quick sales shopping trip in NYC.

Also Maxjet will do a group discount on groups of 4 or more.

Richard, I am aware of this option but personally not a BMI fan, had a couple of bad experience and can't say I am that willing to risk an 10hr+ flight with them, rather do an extra 1hr 30mins driving to LHR for a nice VS flight[y]. Just annoying that there are so few options.

Agree with you that options for people north of the bottom point of the Pennines are poor (although MAN is getting close).

Don't rule bmi out if I were you. They seem to have got it right on long-haul and a lot of their long-haul flights out of MAN have attracted some good reviews: http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/brit_mid.htm

Having said that, you've flown with VS before so you might be better off sticking to what you know, although try Maxjet if the price is right and if your planned shopping trip to NYC with them turns out to be good.

I think this is brilliant and welcome competition for VS and whoever else wants to fly the routes. Competition keeps the fares down and also makes a company start to look at the quality of its product [y]

That's exactly right, competition is good since it gives customers more choice and like you rightly said, keeps fares down[y]

Although competition can be bad for some companies, look what happened to Skytrain. But then again if Skytrain didn't go under then maybe VS wouldn't exist today, or maybe this site wouldn't exist either. Unless there was S-Flyer [:p]

I've done bmi long-haul a few times now, in their "the business" cabin. I can't really criticise them in any way in terms of service - impeccable every time.

Food is great, service good, IFE is fine. The A330's are new and quiet. The only thing behind is the cradle-type seats, but they're cheaper than VS also.

Cheers for that Paul - I take it the bmi Business class is a rival of the UCS? I guess from what you have said its not as good but is cheaper, how do its prices compare to a VS PE S class ticket?.

I guess I shouldn't be so negative and explore all the options (Im too hot headed sometimes[:I])
