I've managed to find a link regarding Thomsonfly's new long-haul cabin. Some of the stuff looks quite good but others bad (Attitude23 you have been warned). Like I'd said previously they're doing this to compete with First Choice...

Having a bit of a dig at VA with their pre-bookable choice of 8 meals, "not just chicken or beef"

How long do you think "touch screen" seatback screens will remain in working order ?

I'd ask someone from FCA cos I think Thomsonfly are using the same IFE equipment as them.
But having said that I'd doubt that they'd last long considering the different types of people travelling on the B&S routes with Thomsonfly. I think some kids might become so fascinated with the 'touch-screen' that they'll break it by simply touching it to death wihtout watching a single programme.
Unless of course the blue screen of death shows up in front of them[}:)]

Well, they are catching up, and perhaps it will give VS a bit of a kick. I don't see any amenity kit or K-id pack Economy class though. But then again only 129 to upgrade to a greater pitch[:w]

Yeah, I agree, may give VS a kick up the pants. O rnot. But yes, a lot of charters seem to be following suit, proving there's a clear market for it. VS - and BA - need to be watchings their tails, if they fail to stay ahead of the game, they're surely going to lose customers.[:?]

Heck I really hate them, especially when one doesn't work in the seat behind your head and the pax prods it sharply over and over again ... give me VS type controls any day!

Cheers for the info Alex[y][y] - although not sure if it will be ready for my Feb trip[:?] (fingers crossed and all that).
It does seem that the holiday companies really are pushing the flight experience now and this is one of the reasons why I am always surprised the VS have not got V-Port sorted for the main B&S routes (MCO ex Man as the prime example). With prices from these companies getting very competitive, small things like the IFE are going to play a major role in what airline people choose and IMHO VS really do need to look at the service they offer on these routes.

The really annoying thing with touch screens are the fact that there are loads of finger marks all over the screen and then it makes it really hard to actually see the tv, and as mentioned, with lots of "different" types of people using thomsonfly I really cannot see that these are going to last too long!

So the charters are catching / over-taking the big boys (VS, BA etc) in the Economy stakes and the likes of Maxjet are fast becoming a strong competition on the Business Class cabins.
Its still very early days, litterally - this is all stuff thats happened in the last year, but interesting times could be ahead and strong competition.

I wouldn't say there's that much of a threat just yet. Right now charters still don't fly to nearly as many destinations as BA and VS, so I don't think there's any threat to routes other than the holiday ones in Florida.

The charters are catching up though on the B+S routes. FCA goes to Barbados, Jamaica and Cuba already.

VS really do need to get V-Port rolled out across the fleet to compete, LGW/MAN pax should suffer no more[^]

With less frequency and flexibility...though for the price difference, I might consider being forced to 7 or 14 day holidays...

The fellet is a small, cuddly, creature and needs nothing rolled across it.[V]
At a reported 2m per aeroplane it wouldn't be cheap...but it would be welcome.

Totally agree with this, charters are realising that they've got to up their game if they're gonna survive because their short-haul businesses have been hit quite hard in recent years so are turning to long-haul to win back customers.
I wonder what Travel City Direct/Excel will come up with in response to all this. Am I right in thinking that they still use shared IFE in Economy and only First Class customers get personal DVD players?
If VS can get V:PORT on their LGW/MAN 747s then that would be smashing...can't see it happening straight away though[:(]

Not sure about IFE but the ExcelOne service is apparently exceptional and I think you even get lounge access, plus they also offer a PE on the 767 so operate a three class service to the carribean and elsewhere.
