Was thinking of taking advantage of either the Delta or Continental offers to New York from Gatwick in the New Year, and up - grading to Business Class which works out at a stunningly low £604

Couldn't find many TR's or comments on here about Delta & Continental so was wondering if anyone had any comments to offer or what the clubhouses are like ?

Out of the two, however, I'd go for Continental:D

unfortunately I have never flown Business with either airline although I have flown with both economy several times internally within the States.

Continental win hands down in terms of service and staff everytime for me.

Along with jetBlue, I very nearly used them for my trip to Florida this November

If maxjet were more expensive then I'd definitely go for CO - much better service[8D]

Along with jetBlue, I very nearly used them for my trip to Florida this November

I looked at doing the same (MaxJet to NY or Washington, then JetBlue to Ft Lauderdale), but the connections times were pretty horrendous. As for Continental/Delta, I would go Continental. You would also get 200% FC miles if you go BusinessFirst, I think.

With either DL or CO you'll earn 150% mileage with VS for BusinessElite or BusinessFirst- according to the VS website anyway.

Personally I've only flown DL J class once, and it was a decent service. No I'm not trying to sell our service because I work for DL, I actually usually travel CO or VS when I travel as a revenue passenger.

That being said, with DL now starting our service between JFK and LGW, there are some stunningly low fares to be had- such as one way BusinessElite fares of $499 (based on roundtrip purchase). Details here.

In the event that you do book with DL, PM me your DL confirmation number and FlyingClub number and I'll put it in your record for you at work, as there is some confusion amongst DL agents as to how to put in a VS number. Some people on here have been told that we don't do VS credit, as a lot of agents don't know how to do it.

Just had the same dilemma myself. In the end I went with Delta but only because I wasn't convinced that the CO booking would earn miles - the special offer fares are booked in R class which does not show as miles earning on the VS website. The Delta fares are booked in I which does earn miles.

Only downside I could see was the CO seat width is quoted as 20" whereas the DL width is a stingy 18.5", only 0.5" more then Y class.

'fraid it looks like another one of those areas where us UK types get a better deal (as mentioned in other threads [8D] ). From the VS website:

* UK members will earn 200% in Business Class (BusinessFirst) on all UK/US routes.

I seem to remember getting this.

The VS site does say that UK memberz will get 200% in BusinessFirst on all UK/US routes but then when you look at the eligible booking classes it says

[Earning miles:
Miles will be issued to Flying Club members when travelling in the following qualifying classes:

Domestic Travel:
First Class: A, D, F

International Travel:
First Class: J, D, Z

Latin America Travel:
First Class: C, D, Z

Domestic, International and Latin America Travel:
Coach Class: Y, H, K, B, V, Q, T, S, L, N, U, I W, X, O

No mention of the R class that these fares are booked in which kind of contradicts the first statement about earning 200% on ALL routes.[?]

Interesting thing when booking the cheap CO flight, it comes up as class R but also 'class: coach (R)

But the seat map when you select seats is in the BF cabin.

Yes I had the same dilemma and plumped for delta as it definitely earns miles and TPs.

I flew CO BizFirst to Houston last month. I did post a TR which is located here.

(I'm going to update the TR to correct the typo's - as it was typed in a hotel on TV internet!)

CO seat is okay, but not as good as J2000 was IMHO. Problem with the seat is that it is very "exposed" in a recined position, especially if the person behind is not reclined.

Service was quite good, if a bit formal - but nowhere near the levels of service with VS - especially on the number of drinks offered.

Food was very good (even had caviar and fois gras on the way home - albeit the smallest portion ever!).

Strangest thing was pre take off drinks only offered in plastic cups which was weird.

one month on, and no miles from CO have yet appeared in my account....

We flew CO Business first EWR-LGW back in August (sorry, was too lazy to do a trip report!)

We had a choice of 2 Presidents lounges at EWR. Neither were in the same league as the VS EWR lounge but passable. You could get a drink, have a packet of crisps and help yourself to some pre packed cheese (no biscuits[n]) As it was a Friday evening it was still preferable to sitting in a busy and crowded departure gate[y]

We had a very good flight even though we were on the 757-200 aircraft which had the older style BizFirst seats. Despite this, I had the best sleep I have ever had on an aircraft. Unfortunately, when the person in front of you reclined it was a bit tight for space.

There were 16 seats in the BizFirst cabin which gave it an exclusive feel. The service was excellent and the food was the best we had tasted on any airline. We both had steak and it was as good as any steak you might have in a restaurant (thanks for the tip Jetwet[y])

I received 2 tier points and around 10,000 mile for that single leg trip, which boosted the coffers a bit:D

I would say that CO BizFrst is worth a try although it is nowhere near as good as the UCS.
